Blackthorn _ left this review about Orange Corner

Reopened under a new name since my previous visit, first impressions weren’t great having to negotiate a gaggle of smokers huddled in the doorway in order to get in. To be fair, one of the bouncers did hold the door open, but then on leaving another one basically blocked the whole pavement and my mate who uses a walking stick had to step in to the road to get past.

It seems largely the same as previously in terms of décor including the rather vibrant orange and black stripes on the rear wall. Full height windows along the front of the pub made the most of the outlook, such as it is, and a band were playing on the stage area to the left. They seemed pretty good, but the volume of music made conversation impossible.

Unfortunately there were no beers on tap, real or otherwise, although I did spot a bottle of Tribute in the ‘fridge. Ciders fared somewhat better with Thatcher’s Haze and Thatcher’s Gold, the latter coming in at an exceptionally cheap £2 per pint. Even so, I can really see no reason to visit here unless perhaps you want to listen to the band, but then I daresay I’m not their target demographic anyway.

Blackthorn _ left this review about Reilly's (Bar & Lounge)

Now known as Mu Mu's, this is one of many similar and largely unappealing bars on the strip leading up to the pier. Decor wise, it seems to have something of an orange and black colour theme, although fortunately this was mostly restricted to the upholstery rather than the paintwork. A table top arcade style game was just inside the door, and there were a couple of plasma screens dotted around, although only one of these was in use and that had the volume off. Flashing disco style lights were in use creating colourful patterns on the floor.

It’s all one single, open-plan room with a raised area off to one side that looks as though it may perhaps be used as a small dance floor. There was an adjacent DJ booth and although the pub was fairly quiet when we visited the music was perhaps just a tad too loud for easy conversation. To be fair though, they were playing a pretty decent 80’s mix. Flooring is wood strip with most of the seating being high tables and chairs, although there was also some banquet seating at the rear in black and orange stripes along with orange pouffes branded with the pub’s name. A couple of sofa’s were by the large floor to ceiling windows at the front giving good views of the road outside. The cream plasterwork ceiling included recessed red lighting effects.

Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap and little to choose from on keg as I recall. Ciders fared somewhat better with Thatcher’s Gold and Strongbow, the former being priced at a very reasonable £2.50 per pint. Alternatively jugs of cocktails were available for £8 if that’s more your thing.
