The Hunter S is a corner pub that had no signage outside,so i had to ask once inside if it was the pub that i thought i was doing.
There is a single L shaped room with the bar facing, the room is bare boarded and the seating is normal tables and chairs to the left and posher looking tables and chairs to the right,so i presumed they were for diners and not for me.
There is an open kitchen to the rear left,so this is more of a dining pub than drinkers pub.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Gales Seafarers which was a decent drink, the other beers were Taylor Landlord and Doom Bar.
Background music was playing and it was crap.
I was happy enough having a drink in this pub while on my crawl of the area.

Renamed The Hunter S in 2012 for reasons unknown, and now so cool for school that the fascia's names have been painted out with the sign taken down. Was it a tribute to Hunter S Thompson or is it because the interior is a veritable zoo of taxidermy? Stuffed anything here, a peacock tops a coat stand, a giant antelope's head emerges from a wall and there are small deer skulls in abundance mounted on wooden plaques attached above the bar. I've seen stuffed stuff in pubs before, but clearly the owner of this place has an unhealthy obsession.
There's an open kitchen, so you can hear the din of your food being cooked and benefit from the heat of the kitchen wafting into the pub; perhaps this was why it was so unpleasantly hot?
Dining seemed to be geared towards the rear of the pub though judging by the fat man guzzling a pizza at the bar, you can eat anywhere. This was backed up by the food remains that were all over our chair seats. Still, there are some interesting interior columns with ornate capitals. Music was muted and furniture is basic. There are some Art Deco hanging lamps dotted around too. Clients were mixed.
Service was shoddy: at least two other customers who had clearly entered the pub after us were served before us.
Ales: Sharp's Doom Bar, Gale's Seafarer and Timothy Taylor's Landlord at a quite steep £2.25 a half. It was also a bit sour.
This is a sloppy place, not as good as The Scolt Head down the road and nowhere near as good as The Duke of Wellington to the north - I doubt I'll return.
