Alan Winfield left this review about The De Beauvoir Arms

The De Beauvoir Arms is a smart looking corner pub that is about halfway down Southgate road.
Once inside there is a fairly large single room with the bar facing on entry, the floor is bare boarded, the seating is normal tables and chairs, there is an open kitchen to the rear left.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Black Sheep bitter which went down well, the other beer was St Austell Tribute.
The pub was packed on my mid Saturday afternoon visit with both drinkers and diners.
I thought this was a decent pub to have a drink in,i stayed here longer than normal as the heavens had opened and i did not want to get too wet on my short walk to the Scolt Head.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The De Beauvoir Arms

Imposing corner pub, with an opened-out interior leaving a staple-shaped bar behind the main seating area, a further small space (with piano) to one side and a much larger dining / kitchen area on the other. Plainly furnished and decorated, with a high ceilings, all leaving quite an austere impression. Patio benches to front and side. Four of five handpumps operational, dispensing Marston's EPA, Portobello Star (£4.00), Broadside and Rosie's Pig cider.

Tris C left this review about The Northgate

Formerly the Jolly Farmers, this is a spacious corner pub with a large uncluttered interior based around an island bar. The ceiling is high and the interior is interupted by columns. There's a beer patio out front and what looks like a beer garden to the rear. Furniture is pleasingly eclectic and lighting is both modern and provided by mini chandeliers; the choice of music was good though perhaps a little loud. Clientelle is typical for the area: young and professional. The loos too are good and thankfully this pub is devoid of gimmicks such as dartboards, pool tables and sports TV. Commensurate with a pub of this calibre, free Wifi (whatever that is) is on offer.

Beer? Addlestone's cider, Fuller's London Pride, Black Sheep and Deuchar's IPA. There's also a menu which is modern 'gastro' in orientation.

If I have one complaint, it's that the pub is a little stark: it could do with a bit more personality. Overall, I would happily make a second visit if I were in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return (I currently live about 5 miles from this boozer).
