The Treaty of Commerce is a thin pub with banquette seating in the front window and a bar counter lined with stools up the right wall. A mix of high and standard tables, and also banquettes, are found adjacent to a fireplace at the rear. at the very rear is a arched seating area with some historic pictures on the walls of arches, I’m not sure of the connection. My visit was around work chucking out time on a recent Thursday afternoon so there was a decent crowd in, noisy but good natured I think would be the best description.
Standard and premium keg was available and the four hand pumps were drawing Black Sheep alongside four Bateman’s beers. I went for the Gold, which wasn’t great if I’m being honest. The service was friendly and the location dictates that I’ll probably find myself in here again at some point, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to revisit.

An old-school locals' pub, suffering a bit from a tacky facelift. There is one long room with a small bar counter towards the front and a vaulted section at the back. Entertainment is provided by a pile of board games and an over-loud radio. A Batemans pub, with XB, XXXB and Golden on pump plus a guest, which was Ghost Ship on this occasion. Boxed ciders also available. Nice to find a genuine drinking-type pub in the city centre, but it has room for improvement.

Last pub before getting the train back. Narrow place with bar to the right. Beer garden to rear. Five weak real ales so had to go for cider.
