The Coach House Hotel is now the “Minster Walk Guesthouse” and doesn’t appear to have a public bar.

They had two Rudgate ales on – Viking, and Ruby Mild. Both were fine, although, like everywhere in York it seems, they were dispensed through sparklers. Apparently this is intended to ensure that the beer has a nice “head” – or so the mantra goes. As I was a visitor to Yorkshire I went along with the local custom that a pint of beer should look like a cappuccino, and come with a head that would be the subject of a top up request if served like that in London. The Viking was £2.90 a pint, which is quite good for someone used to paying London prices. The Ruby Mild was a little more as I recall.
This is effectively a hotel and restaurant, although there were a couple of sofas that were available for drinkers. All the main tables were laid for diners, at least in the evening. As a restaurant it was quite good. I ate there a couple of times and the food was excellent, and the dining areas were very comfortable and in an attractive setting. But it’s not really the sort of place to which I would just drop into for a pint.
