ROB Camra left this review about The Bootham Tavern

A good looking pub just outside the city walls. Both of the closest pubs had decided not to honour their published opening hours, so this was Hobsons Choice, but it's worth a visit. An island bar serving three areas. It goes back a lot further than you'd think, so it's rather bigger than it looks. Nothing of any real interest on the bar, so I just had a half. Notes fail as to what this was, but it was in good nick. Friendly welcome from the barmaid as well. A good solid pub.

Old Boots left this review about The Bootham Tavern

Traditional corner pub with a healthily mixed clientele including some bar blockers. Bench seating at leather banquettes with wood topped Britannia tables. Basically an elongated u shape with a central servery for what would have been at least two bars. Two banks of three pulls on different counter faces, Black Sheep Bitter, Bradfield Farmers Blonde and Lees plum Porter to compliment the standard kegs. Mix of decor but majoring on knights and armour, a few photos of old York lurk about and there’s a couple of big screens on sports channels.

An interestingly-varied pub, with a very public bar feel to the front led by the TVs showing footie, but a series of posher rooms behind including a cosy traditional snug with partitions and leather benches, and a larger room with a wall of kegs (literally, not a wall of keg taps!). Ales available were Bradfield Farmers Blonde, Tetley Cask and Black Sheep. More of a proper pub than touristy.
