A white painted pub that was festooned with hanging baskets, giving a very pleasing on the eye view on approach. Inside it's very much a traditional locals boozer,a single L shaped room, carpeted with normal height table and chairs.Three pumps on the bar with three beers to choose from,
Doom Bar, Pride and Young's Bitter, the mundane beer choice was the only downside to an otherwise cracking pub, point deducted for that.

A single rectangular room with a slight recess to each end beyond the central bar. A few tables in the left hand end were set for dining. Comfortable and warm inside despite the fire being unlit, the pub is carpeted and has small pew style benches and stools. The low ceiling and brasses dotted about help to give a country feel. The pub still has the old Friary Mieux sign outside but the beers nowadays seem to be Pride, Youngs Bitter and Harvey's Sussex Best, the same as the review below. The decor includes lots of horse racing pictures and Epsom Derby scenes and there are a series of portraits of jockeys above one fireplace. The pub also hosts a golf society with a board on display listing the captains. The TV on an end wall was on showing Final Score to a number of interested customers and someone I took to be the landlady.
A pleasant and homely sort of pub that I'd not hesitate to visit again. There are a few benches outside to the front for the better weather.

This is clearly a locals’ pub, but then I suppose most are at Sunday lunchtime. This is a nice looking pub from the outside, with its well maintained hanging baskets and floral planting, and inside it doesn’t disappoint either. In fact it looks quite a large pub from the outside, but inside it has the reverse TARDIS effect, being quite narrow alongside the bar counter that faces the street. Furnishings consist of normal tables and chairs, plus some banquettes, as well as a few stools by the bar; it has a good quality carpet on the floor – thus for me it is a comfortable pub. A couple of the tables at the back on the left were set for diners, although said diners had yet to arrive at 1.30. As a previous reviewer has said, there are a couple of fireplaces, but it didn’t look though they had had much recent use during our so-called summer, but they would give the place a really warm atmosphere if they do light them during the autumn or winter months. There was a very large flatscreen TV just above the banquette on the right – it must be very offputting sitting there when it is on, but thankfully it was off during my visit.
The ales on were Young’s Bitter, London Pride and Harvey’s Best. I had the Young’s, which was £3.30 a pint. This is a comfortable, well cared for pub; just the sort of place to sit and partake of a pint or two before ambling back home to tuck into your Sunday roast, that hopefully someone else has cooked for you (even if the ale prices are a bit steep). I would be very happy to drop in again for another pint.
