A traditional town boozer with two bars at the front as described below, plus a snug, a pool room and a pleasant paved yard at the back. There is a small stone inglenook and a dart board in the lounge area, and a TV in the public bar alongside the brick fireplace. There is a strong local feel, but I didn’t experience any of the animosity BobOs describes. Two ales on, Doombar and Courage Directors, plus some ciders. The beer was in fair condition, though the Directors had a strange aftertaste. Worth including on a crawl.

Quirky small town pub - locals' (public) bar to the right, 'saloon' to the left. Quite an experience - you have to go into the locals' bar to see the pump clips and the quietly raucous bonhomie ceases immediately as you cross the threshold while all eyes focus on you. You order your pint and beat a hasty retreat to the 'other' bar and the hubub resumes. That apart, you can't fault the local beers - the excellent Merlin's Magic (Moor Brewery, Ashcott) the equally excellent Ruby (Yeovil Brewery) and Butcombe Bitter. No way is this a 10/10 pub experience like the last reviewer would have it, but for the quirky experience and decent ales at is a realistic 'above average' 6.

A Real Cider house - own local stuff, not commercially bottled. This will send your legs to sleep!
