Located down a narrow street round the side of the Corn Exchange, a very Dickensian approach. An appealing exterior gives way to a surprisingly large interior with a number of old rooms over a number of levels. Traditional alehouse decor with black tar wood floor, flock embossed wallpaper, burgundy/cream colour scheme and muted lighting but as mentioned below, perhaps less cosy that you might have hoped for. Perhaps unfortunately the atmosphere was spoilt by the screens showing TV sport on mute whilst music plodded away in the background, alongside the thud and clink of the pool table. A good range at the bar, six pumps with five ales; St Austell Proper Job, Black Sheep Bitter, Arbor Blue Sky Drinking, Bath Gem and Bath Prophecy (fair). Friels, Skreach and Knights cider on pump plus 3 others chalked on a board. It's a decent stop overall and does enough to warrant a visit if you’re in the area. 6.5

Blackthorn _ left this review about Crown Inn

An attractive looking pub located adjacent to the historic St Nicholas Market, it doesn’t however have quite the cosy charm inside that you might think from looking at it. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but it is very much a no frills boozer and I can imagine that the odd tourist popping in on spec might be a little disappointed.

Internally it’s a reasonable size on several levels with the largest room being up a few steps at the rear. At the front are two smaller rooms with a couple more steps between them. Décor wise it’s broadly similar throughout, with black wooden boards on the floor that have been worn smooth over the years, some dark wood panelling on the lower part of the walls and rough cream plasterwork and flock wallpaper elsewhere. A number of photos of old Bristol were on the walls and several TV screens were showing the football. A quick glance at the menu showed a basic pub grub offering with options such as scampi and chips, sausage and mash, chilli con carne etc., and these were mostly priced around the £8 mark.

There was a good choice of beers on tap with Ubu Purity, Bath Ales Special and Jaipur IPA along with Scoundrel and Chimera from Beerd and a sixth option that was apparently settling in the cellar. Ciders were well represented too, with Bath Ales Bounders and a trio from Thatcher’s – Gold, Haze and Big Apple which is a new one on me.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Crown Inn

Somewhat hidden down an alleyway in the market area of the city, this slightly tatty pub is a bit more interesting than you might initially think. The 'L'-shaped bar is up a few steps and bigger than it first appears, with two pool tables in another room beyond and the Club Cavern music venue underneath. The rock jukebox also appears to be an important attraction. It wasn't obvious at first, but thankfully there are three handpumps on the bar offering two 'house' beers from the Felinfoel Brewery - Crown'n'Glory and Liquid Metal (excellent value at £1.99) - plus a cider.
