Given a makeover a while back and is now being pushed by Greene King as more of an ale venue. It’s still a large open-plan barn over two levels, with dubious over-loud music (quite laughable given it was a midweek evening out of term-time with only 7-8 other customers). The rear area of exposed brick was probably the only feature of note. Six pumps with five ales, 2 x Oxfordshire (the Marshmallow tasted suspiciously like GK, and was quite cold), Golden Sheep and 2x GK standards (Abbott and IPA). My companions Oxfordshire Hooker was awful and there was a classic rigmarole getting it exchanged (stroppy barman holding it up to the light and attempting to pass it off, got sullen when I stood my ground, what an arse; wonder if it was the same chump as encountered by the reviewer below?). In summary, still crap. In fact, maybe even worse than before – at least there was no ale to bugger up then. In a city full of good pubs, don’t waste your time here.

Upmarket Greene King outlet serving foreign lagers (no real ale) at expensive prices, catering mainly to loaded students as a pre-clubbing venue. Not too bad a place for what it is, clean and tidy but you've got to laugh at the comedy of having a large flat screen TV showing a DVD of a real fire...why not just install one?!? Pretty exterior though. Rated 5

This place has undergone a major refurb and is now known as the Wig and Pen , heaving on my Saturday evening visit with music being played at head splitting volume , service was pretty quick although the barman had a serious attitude problem . Six handpulls mostly with Greene King beers . I had a Potbelly Mild which was Ok .
Not my sort of place to rammed and noisy
