This pub has clearly started life as a small local at the side of the road out of town, but recent changes like the retail and leisure park opposite have encouraged redevelopment to the extent that it's now hard to discern the original building behind all the extensions. Even harder once inside, where the sole difference between this and some of the town centre drinking halls is the propensity for families to come here with their children and in-laws for a meal, with any beer being merely incidental. On the real ale front there is indeed a massive choice, if you like nationally available mainstream beers: Greene King Abbot, St Austell Tribute, Caledonian Deuchars IPA and Castle Rock Harvest Pale to name a few. To make things worse, I was here to watch the football at nearby Field Mill, and the rule is plastic glasses on match days.

The Talbot is situated just up the road from the Il Rosso pub.
When i visited this pub it was a fairly smart Shipstones tied house with a very nice drink of Shipstones Bitter on the bar,the other real ale was Shipstones Mild.
This pub still does real ales,it now branded as a John Barras house.
