A delightful back street pub that time forgot. Looks like mist of its customers have forgotten, too. The very friendly woman who served my said she's been working here for 17 years, and they used to get local workers calling in, such as bankers, police and teachers, but there are no banks any more, the police station and the local school have closed, and thus pub is jyst far enough away from the main drag to be too much of an effort. They used to have six hand pumps but now three, with one local beer from Three Brothers, and one from Nottingham'a Magpie Brewery, plus a cider with a hand written label. My half of Trilogy Blonde from the former was in very good condition and £4.40/pint (cash only). There's a blackboard listing a decent selection of Belgian bottles, but they only stock about half of the original list, as many of them can be bought at local supermarkets now. We had an interesting conversation, but it was tinged with sadness, as this pub is unchanged in 30 years or more - except for the ashtrays - and is keeping going only because it's a freehold, but it's probably only hanging on by its fingertips. Last in the GBG in 2021.

dark, musky bar off the main centre, it appears to be an old fashioned drinkers bar, very male dominated and maybe needs work, but the beer is excellent and the whisky choice fine!

Mon - Fri the John Bull opens 7pm - 11pm. The pub consists of one large room, with a short wall in the middle of the room, which you can pass on either end. The deco was painted walls and a carpet tiles. There was a decent amount of drinkers in on our Wednesday eve visit. There were three ales from Rudgate on handpump, which were Ruby Mild, Cousin Amarillo and Swordsman. There was also a perry and two ciders. They have a large selection of Belgium beers and collection of whiskies. The Rudgate Swordsman was in excellent condition.
