There was a sign outside saying “dog and children friendly” (none of them apparently were, we found.)

In fact, we were leapt at by two snarling bull terriers of some sort, while screeching children, apparently in the throes of sugar frenzies, orbited the room. So we left.

I think that we should abandon these terms something-or-other-"friendly". They suggest that if other places are not also like that, then whatever wonderful friendliness they might possess would be incomplete. That seems to me to be quite unjust.

Something more neutral such as "accepted" or "welcome" strikes me as about right.

Equally, some of these pubs might as well have signs reading "anyone-who-fancies-a-quiet-pint unfriendly", in my opinion.

It's a pity, because in other respects, from what I read, this one has plenty to offer.

Perhaps we were just unlucky on the day.

On the other hand, and as an update, having read what has just been written a few weeks later, perhaps not.

Not the best of clientele. Three real ale hand pumps - only one used. Bar in middle, TV to rear.

Slightly hidden away but very close to the main riverside drag to the beach. This has a beautiful middle bar, wood fronted with seating around it to back & the street.

pool table in the bar to the right, complete with hard wood benches. Nice place with good real ale
