A nice modern refit of an old tram depot, perhaps a little too predictably like many a modern rural-style pub but offering a good drinking space. There is a large front bar split up into little areas, with a restaurant section to the rear and a side patio. Beers are from Everards plus guests and generally seemed ok, although one had to be returned and the two lists of guest beers did not agree with each other, so it might need a little attention to detail.

A clever and well done conversion of a former horse drawn tram depot.....as the name infers. So naturally a very long room, a pair of steps lead up to a separate dining area to one end. The bar runs along a side wall where the flooring is terracotta tiles, elsewhere is boarded. There is an open trussed beamed ceiling. Various forms of seating, probably too many high tables in such a large space, the booth seating in the dining area looks preferable if permitted when not eating. There is also seating outside.
Everard's have this place now I believe, they had Tiger, Old Original, Hazy Days Wheat Beer plus something called Tram Light, Derby Brewing Dashingly Dark and Magpie Brewery Jay IPA. Three x thirds available on a taster board. Chatty and genuine fellow behind the bar, quite liked it here.

Tram depot: a good atmosphere, nice decor, small outdoor area, car park at rear, 5 handpumps mainly serving Everards beers, a few posh lagers, friendly staff, good food (great chips). Occasionally hosts jazz bands. Has a blackboard giving tasting notes of the beers which is something every pub should do.
Frequented by Anglia Ruskin staff and students but don't let that put you off.
