I found this pub a bit depressing to be honest, although the interior remains beautiful and quite well maintained. Admiral Taverns, master pub closers, are advertising it as To Let outside but it remains open. No real ale at all, a stark contrast with the hundreds of old pump clips all over the ceiling- how sad is that? No clientele either as far as I could tell, besides friends of the current landlords. Will end up as flats like every other pub Admiral get their hands on, which really is a shame for this place.

Very old pub, somewhat reminiscent of the Marble Arch and Peveril of the Peak in Manchester. Lots of green and brown tiling, both inside and out. As you enter from Price Street there's a drinking corridor with a couple of rooms off. There's a snug to the left and a further room that looks as if it's used aa a dining room to the rear. Lots of stained glass panels and windows. The sad thing is that it's very shabby, especially the outside which doesn't look inviting at all. Two ales on the bar from 3 handpumps and the most interesting was Sharps Cornish Coaster, I forget to write down the other it was so memorable. The staff were fairly clueless which makes me think they may not have been here very long, certainly the ale range wasn't as inventive as when visited by Ray. So we have a CAMRA National Inventory pub in need of some TLC and an overhaul of the beer range. It could be a great pub, but sadly it isn't at the moment, it's only OK.
