Tris C left this review about The Cally

This was originally The Balmoral Castle, then McLouchlin's, next The Eagle and now The Cally (Caledonian Road is affectionately known as the Cally Road), which opened in November 2013 after a long period of dormancy.
This is an imposing corner pub and former Meux's house situated directly opposite HMP Pentonville. The front door is office-style, full-height frosted glass with D-handles. The interior has some painted bare brick to a raised area with the bar on the far right. The bar top is fake black granite, the material used for kitchen worktops. The floor is dark and bare boarded, there are exposed limed beams and bare rafters combined with exposed air conditioning vents. From the back wall hangs a large TV on which MTV (or similar) was playing. Furniture is both eclectic and conventional. The overall impression of this pub is that of a students' union bar run by Wetherspoons.
This pub has a basic drinks' choice: Foster's, Guinness, Strongbow, Symond's cider and John Smith's fizz.
There's not much else around here but it's around an eight-minute walk to the Hemingford.

Steve C left this review about The Eagle

The old McLoughlin's writing is still visible down the side of the pub (see picture), but this place is now called the Eagle. As late as July this year it was in a dispute with the council as the owners were seeking extended opening hours until Midnight during the week, 2am on Fridays and Saturdays and 1am on Sundays. I walked past at 21:00 last night (Saturday) and it was closed with blue shutters, which can also be seen in the picture, covering the doors and windows.
