Village pub that is now far more food-focused than wet led. The pub enjoys a pretty location and does not fit the archetypal gastropub description. Indeed, it is listed in the latest Good Beer Guide and has a couple of local real ales. On my visit, these were Chiltern Kop Hill Ale & Tring Side Pocket For A Toad.

All tables in the pub's two rooms were made out for diners. So, we chose to sit outside, as it was a sunny Sunday lunchtime when we arrived at opening time. Table service is still in operation here and we soon got a reminder of how frustrating it can be sat waiting (and waiting) for drinks to arrive, when it is so much quicker to get them from the bar.

We didn't eat in here. So, I can't comment on the food. However, my Chiltern beer was (eventually) enjoyed in the sunshine.

The Gatehangers for many a year, and before that The Red Lion, this has now gone down the gastro route, with the name "The Hundred" (a nod to the legal quirk of stewardship of the 'Chiltern Hundred'). A cosy country inn located down a narrow lane off another narrow lane on a ridge looking down on Waddesdon and Winchendon, this has an entrance-facing bar with an unused fireplace stack to the right and entrance to a stripped back dining area with light-coloured and exposed brick which L-shapes to the rear, and a drinking area in front of the bar and to its left. Standard tables and chairs far left with the exception of a large settle-type cushioned communal seat opposite the bar with low table in front. Two ales - Vale Hundred (rebadged Brill Gold) and Rebellion Impressionist (from their "World Greats series for 2018 and with Vincent Van Gogh's mug on the clip). The Rebellion was a little on the iffy side. A recent visit to dine saw two locAles in the form of Animal (XT) HopKitty and Vale "Hundred IPA", with Chiltern Gold reversed. Dining area stripped back, exposed brick and white walls. Good food too, with a house terrine, followed by a filling Pigeon and Bacon pie eagerly polished off with super service to boot.

Steve of N21 left this review about Gate Hangers Inn

The Gatehangers Inn is a good looking country village pub in the Buckinghamshire village of Ashendon, between Aylesbury and Bicester, situated on a ridge giving good views of the surrounding countryside
Externally it is a solid brick and stone construction and parts of it look to be of considerable age.
Internally it is still a traditional décor and although at one time probably multiple rooms it is now one open space with a pub lounge section including a cosy sofa spot next to an open fire and then a separate section set with dining tables.
The wood clad bar supports three hand pumps and alongside GK IPA there was local brewery ales in the shape of Tring Brewery side pocket and an XT ale which was XT Indian Pale if I remember correctly.
There is a large pub garden out back and the Gatehangers continues to function as an INN by offering B&B accommodation. For this you should always check out accommodation review site like Trip Advisor, and on TA the pub has one of the best review scores I have seen for a small B&B, so the landlord seems to be doing something right.
Worth checking the opening times because it only opens for the evenings on some days and is closed all day Monday.
