Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Beauty of Bath
For an estate boozer, this one is larger than one might expect, with a slightly raised seating area in front of the L-shaped bar and more tables further back. Additionally, the beer garden now features a large marquee to provide additional covered tables. Sadly, none of the three handpumps were dispensing real ale, so I tossed a coin and the Maltsmiths IPA lost out to the John Smith's (£3.90).

The Beauty of Bath is a 1960s estate pub built to serve the housing estate on which it sits. The name comes not from Chaucer, as is often stated, but is a variety of apple, as indicated by its pub sign, so it's a nod to the fruit farms which provided much of the local employment until fairly recently. From the outside it looks like a ghastly 1960s estate pub, with a children's play area, tacky posters and Poulson architectural features. From the inside it just looks like a ghastly 1960s estate pub, complete with chianti-bottle candle holders and a rather distasteful caged parrot. The single U-shaped bar was littered with packing cases and was populated with pugilistic, mouthy customers, the men pretending to be Vinnie Jones and the hens, if I may mix my metaphors, parading around like mutton dressed as pork. Staff were apathetic and generally useless. Two ales on - I had Masterbrew which was surprisingly drinkable, but still way off perfect. I won't be hurrying back.
