A good boozer opposite the market hall. Open plan with a largish outside drinking area at the rear. 6 handpulls with a good variety of styles available. All decked out for an Oktoberfest theme on my visit. Outdoor pavement seating at the front. I liked this pub and would be happy to return.

My first visit here, though I got such a strong feeling of deja vu on entering that I had to check my notes from previous years when I got home! It was quite loud, with some Motown on the sound system. I had a good laugh with one of the lasses working here about what a jolly, uplifting tune the Velvettes' Needle in a Haystack is, when you stop to think that the lyrics are all about how bloody awful some men can be. The beer was also good, with six hand pumps advertising beers from local breweries (Howard Town, Beartown, Poynton and Empire). I like a pub to play good music with enthusiasm, not just to take the edge off an uncomfortable silence, but if I'd been in company I'd have been moving on because I couldn't hear myself speak. As it was, I had an enjoyable quarter of an hour and would be happy to try this one again.

Visited again on Friday afternoon. Still has six hand pulls for real ale, one of which was off at the time of my visit, the others offering Angel Bitter (house ale), Tiny Rebel Cwtch, two by Empire (a mild and a porter), and an IPA that I couldn't get a good enough view of the pump clip to note the brewery.

I had the Pandemonium Porter by Empire which I think set me back £3.80 for the pint - and this was very pleasant. Service was friendly and welcoming.

Music was playing, and there is a beer garden to the rear. There may also have been some tables to the front.

Visited on Saturday evening. It has apparently been extended into the building next door but from the inside we struggled to work out how you got through to the "next door" bit. There was a passage past the bar but it looked like a dead end. At the bar were six hand pulls for cask, three of these by Thirst Class Ale. I can't remember the other three except that they were all on and one was Kirkstall Pale Ale. There was also some keg stuff including at least three Weihenstephaner taps. This was busy on Saturday evening but being bigger it was more comfortable than Project 53 next door. I'd be very happy to go back and give it another try sometime.

Enjoyed our visit to this friendly bar yesterday. Although not open long - November 2018 I believe - it appeared popular with the locals, and we enjoyed our Blueberry Pale Ale from 4Ts brewery. They have used the premises plus the shop next door for more space, and plan to use the large yard for extra drinking space and live music.

Called in here on Friday myself at about 17:15, so may have missed Ray & Fiona by a couple of hours.

I didn't stay for a drink as the prat behind the bar insisted I had a plastic pint pot despite at least half of the other drinkers having glass. He did actually say "more than my jobs worth on Foodie Friday, we all have to do it on the Market Place".

Project 53 next door were serving normal glasses!

Not a great experience for a first time visit, but I'll probably try again in the future.

Closed its doors in 1951 and was turned into various business down the years. After a spell of being completely shut down this phoenix rose from the ashes and reopened its doors as a pub only three weeks ago. Six handpumps on the bar along with three good sized German beer fonts serving 11 beers. We went for the First Chop Brewery Hoppy Blonde which was a decent pint.
The interior is traditional, with the bar facing you as you enter. The bar had a stained plywood front and a solid oak counter. The interior had the original exposed ceiling beams, feature wallpapered areas and a log burning stove, along with a couple of chesterfield sofas in the far left hand corner. This isn't a large pub so seating space is to a minimum. It was quite busy on our Friday lunchtime visit, but we did manage to spot some bar stools and a drinking ledge at the far end of the bar, which was good as you can observe the beer pouring from behind the bar and chat to the bar staff, who were very friendly.
