Real Ale Ray left this review about Yard Of Ale

We visited here on a Thursday, at 5pm, when it had just opened. I was impressed with the owner on our visit as he drew some beer off each handpump before serving. The owner also told us that he formerly run this business as a coffee shop, until Costa Coffee moved in right next door on the high street. The interior is long and narrow and has three drinking areas, consisting of a small drinking area on entrance with a couple of bar stools and a pot shelf across the window. The main bar area has a further couple of pews and a small snug on the right.
Seven ales to choose from, three on handpump and four directly from the cask. Options were Black Sheep, Salopian Lemon Dream, Purple Moose, Magpie Jay, Hilltop Rasputin Stout, Old Sawley Jobber and Sharps Atlantic. I went for the Magpie Jay on Stillage and Salopian Lemon Dream on handpump. My Magpie Jay was excellent, but the Salopian Lemon Dream was disappointing, maybe the brewery had forgotten to put the lemon flavoured hops in.
Prices in here were inflated for a micropub and my Salopian came in at £3.60.
