Under new management and much improved since our visit in 2013. It's still baisically the same in the main room, but there is now an upstairs room that used to be part of the restaurant. It's all dark wood panelling and old timbered ceilings and can be quite atmospheric in the evenings. Two handpumps and several craft kegs available on the bar. The Mosaic brewed by Yorkshire Brewing Company which is brewed a few hundred yards away on Humber Street was in good nick. The only let down on this occasion was the sticky tables. The barmaid was reading a magazine when I arrived, so it's not as if she didn't have the time to clean them.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Old House

An interesting-looking building, and one of Hull's oldest, converted to pub use relatively recently. Compact, traditional-looking interior with an upstairs room, but it styles itself as a 'Bistro & Craft Beer Bar' and that is not too wide of the mark. In addition to the eight keg taps, there are two real ales on handpump which included the Mosaic Session Bitter (1.60, half) when we stopped by.

Little single roomer, with a nice bow frontage. Front area is quite characterful with exposed brick and wonky beams, the rear (which houses the bar) less so. Noted an old sit-down arcade machine that was switched off (why have it then?). Just two on; a flatlining Marstons Longer Days (taken back but not off) and a better Yorkshire Mosaic. Also eight craft kegs to the rear of the bar. Service was utterly perfunctory from the teenage barmaid who looked like she wouldn’t know quality beer if it bit her in the backside. I thought this was a pretty weak in the context of the Scale Street area and I wouldn’t see myself wanting to go again, especially with Wm Hawkes directly opposite. 5.5

I found the ground floor here a bit poky, especially the bar area, where a bottleneck can occur from people paying for food and trying to decide what beer to go for. It was only when I got a beer and navigated a narrow wooden staircase upstairs, were I could sit and relax. The upstairs consisted of a rear dining room and front lounge, both were traditional in style and had a certain charm about them. I went for the Yorkshire Mosaic which was average and nothing to write home about. Agree with Moby and Steve below, should have gone down the craft route here.

A nice looking place and one I had earlier earmarked as one I must visit,It didn't quite live up to my expectations, the Marston's cask options didn't really excite though my choice of Yorkshire Mosaic was adequate, I think I should have gone down the craft route here.Would I come back? Probably.

This former sweetshop wasn’t that busy when we popped in and we managed to get the seat in the front window. Unfortunately neither of the two cask ales on (as described below) were up to much so perhaps the Craft Keg offerings are the best when you visit here. In fact the highlight of the visit was the large jar of pork scratching’s available on the counter and a bag of these gave the jaw a real workout. Not sure I would personally bother with this one again , especially with W.M. Hawkes almost opposite.

A good looking old building converted to a pub, there is a photo inside showing when it was a confectioners. The ground floor is stripped out with a low ceiling ,is very small with an unused fireplace and the bar to the rear. It's quite hipsterish with raspberry beer jam for sale in jars,20 gins to choose from as well as 8 keg taps and two handpumps offering Marston's Longer Days and Yorkshire Mosaic.I went for a keg Atom Dark Alchemy which was very good.As there wasnt enough room to swing a cat,we went upstairs where there is a small dining room to the rear and a low ceiling lounge to the front with room for four tables. The muzak here was too loud ,so the visit was sweet and short.Quirky and different ,it may be more charming at a quiet time of the day.

No5 Scale lane is thought to be the oldest domestic premises in Hull. Downstairs has stripped brick decor and a good antique feel. Only two handpumps with beers from Hull Brewery including Save Dead Bod, a piece of 1950s or 60s graffiti produced by a couple of drunk merchant seamen but now a Hull landmark threatened with destruction. There are also eight keg taps and a fridge full of bottles. Upstairs are a couple of dining rooms and some unisex stalls. Not a bad place now considering its previous incarnation.

Under new management and renamed The Old House. Sadly it's closed on Monday, so we couldn't visit.

Small bar underneath the Cooks Endeavour restaurant. It's nicely decorated with pictures of old Hull around the walls. There are only a couple of dining style tables and chairs, there's not much room for anything else. There were 4 handpumps on the bar all badged with Great Newsome beers, sadly 3 were off even though the clips weren't turned round. The only option open to me was Pricky Back Otchan, part way through being pulled the beer gave up the ghost leaving a nearly full pint of hazy sludge. The barmaid still tried to sell it to me!!!!! Needless to say I refused. By this time the other half had ordered and had been served a small glass of red wine. It was cheap nasty crap, sold at restaurant prices. The barmaid asked me what I would like instead of the beer. I decided to have nothing! Unheard of for me. A bar that serves both crap beer and wine and is supposed to be linked to a decent restaurant will not be getting my custom. If you walk past, and I suggest you do, and there are nicotine bouncers outside the door it will be the chefs and the barmaid. We know, we watched the discussions from the comfort of The Lion & Key after I handed the barmaid a PuG card. There are some really good real ale pubs on Scale Lane. This isn't one of them.
