Impressive Victorian pub with a shabby but still orpulant interior, the windows, architrave, central iron column, ceiling are particularly note worthy. Some bench seating remains but it’s mostly tables and chairs of various heights. The counter may be original but it’s fairly plain, the bar back is neat though, the counter is home to three T-Bars of mundane kegs. Loads of screens showing cricket and horse racing, very suitable for the lunchtime clientele which was definitely at the old codger end of the scale, hence the lager and smooth I guess.

An attractive looking corner pub. Sadly the interior is a bit of a let down and the fact that there was no real ale was a disappointment too. Basically its a square box. A bit rougher than the other pubs I visited and its not one I'd be back to next time I'm in Nottingham.

As described below the Thurland is a corner pub on Thurland Street that is pretty attractive and in a style not so common with its surroundings or other Nottingham pubs in the area. I agree that the curved corner entrance makes it seem a bit like an old school London boozer and it really sticks out as different compared to most of the city’s other watering holes. Once inside the pub is one square shaped room with very little in the way of fixtures and fittings. It seems like this place goes through a revamp every other week and after its latest reopening things don’t really seem to have changed a great deal. There is a central supporting pillar with a few chairs around it and a few tables and chairs around the outside walls with one high table and high bench seat on the right hand side of the bar. Décor wise there is not really much apart from the nice high celling as there is some naff new wallpaper and plain hard wood floors. The clientele are of the lower end of the social scale and this has always been the case. On my visit there was an old man swearing to himself in the middle of the room while dancing as well as a chavette doing a lap dance for her boyfriend in the corner speaks volumes about the regulars who frequent here. Also to mention as we entered the lights dimmed and house music started blasting out. It will come as no great surprise that no real ale is served and there are no hand pulls on the bar. I opted for Guinness at a very reasonable £2.95 which is probably the cheapest Guinness I know in the city and it was actually reasonably fresh and not super chilled beyond belief so it gets a point there. Overall a very rough and ready intimidating city boozer filled with the types of folk who would applaud at the offer of a 9 AM Special brew that are no doubt attracted to the cheap prices. It seems a shame as it is in an good position and the exterior would suit a well ran proper real ale boozer but it is a long way off that. In its current guise I won’t be back in a hurry.

The Thurland Hall is situated behind the council house on a pedestrianised street.
This pub looks fairly grand from the outside and it looks like a London pub in my opinion.
This pub used to be a Bass tied house and the pub had a very rough reputation and no real ales, after a short period of closure the Thurland Hall has reopened and it now looks a lot smarter and cleaner inside, there is still just the one square room with the bar to the righr as you enter, this small room has got bare boards with one tall table in the middle of the room and normal tables and chairs around the sides of the room.
There are now two handpumps on the bar but only one was in operation on my recent visit, this had Castle Rock Harvest Pale on and this was a very nice drink.
I found this to be a comfortable pub to sit and have a drink in and this pub has improved vastly since it as been done up.

Update

The Thurland Hall has now got all of its old customers back plus some new ones.

Probably best left to the locals now.

An Enterprise Inn, has some good features this pub and is worth a visit. Has the original ornate plaster ceiling and the lamps are new, but in a 1930's style. The floor is timber with some tiling in front of the bar, Some settees and wallpaper. Two ales on, Hobgoblin and Castle Rock Harvest Pale, which was far too chilled.

A square box, close to the Market Square that closes early on some nights. There's an ornate bar back but nothing else stands out. At about 1 p.m. on Monday the bar was quite well populated with quite a lot of candidates for "Care In The Community". Two handpumps, but only Castle Rock Harvest Pale on. I was a bit surprised to find that this was pretty well kept. Doubt that I'll be visiting again.
