Alex Conway left this review about Horse & Groom

The Horse and groom is a large roadside pub on the main road between Papplewick and Linby. The pub is in a fairly affluent country village with large houses. Inside the pub has three separate rooms with the right hand side and rear being light airey and modern and set out for diners. The real gem is the front "byron room" an unaltered bar with old fashioned glass frontage, carpets and an open fire. This room has not ben altered in years and retains a lot of character as a beer drinkers space away from the food at the rest of the pub. The space is only minilal with space for 20 at a push. The bar has three real ales with a further three on a sepperate bar at the back but all listed on a backboard. This is a Heiniken pub that shows in the beer range that on my visit included Theakston ligtfoot, XB and Dockside ale along  with Osset Yorkshire Blonde, Pheasantry Dragonfly and Shipstones IPA, not a bad selection. My Yorkshire Blonde was 3.40 and in OK condition but the atmosphere of the Byron room overall made up for things. This seems like a very nice country pub come come and have food on the back but would be worth returning on a cold winter evening to settle down at the bar and enjoy a few good beers. The Heiniken selection, adequqte beer condition  and limited space holds it back a tad but over I would return here and could see myself settling down for a session. 7.5 I'd give it.
