The Chairman left this review about Duke of Edinburgh Hotel

A big and busy pub across the road from the railway station. Has a selection of Lancaster Brewery beers along with some guest ales, including an excellent Stockport Stout. The pub also provides table service using a buzzer system, although my buzzer didn't appear to work! This is just a minor detail though, and this is a good place to spend an hour waiting for a train or, if you are luckier then me, a football match!

Lancaster Brewery pub in a fairly imposing brick-built corner site. My visit here was very brief, as I needed to catch the last bus of the night out to Hawcoat and the King's Arms. However, I was reasonably impressed with what I saw. The pub was fairly spacious and was busy. Despite plenty of staff, I still had a wait to be served, due to the volume of people.

Lancaster Amber, Blonde & Red are the regular beers. Their Black and their Chestnut Red were also on, along with a couple of guest beers - Pennine Pacific & Well Drawn Winter Ale.

Hotel bar done in the standard Lancaster brewery fashion. Not pub-like, lots of chunky wooden furnishings and a slick corporate atmosphere. It’s fine and the beer is good but I wouldn’t stay for too long.

A handy stroll of less than five minutes from Barrow railway station, and definitely preferable to remaining on the platform if you have a 30 minute wait for your train. It's a handsome hotel building, though the bar is nothing special - it's a large room with two parts, and the bar counter has several hand pumps featuring beers from Lancaster Brewery. This is a competent if largely unexciting brewery, and if you can afford to wait for a later train you could do a lot worse than sample a half of each, or even a pint, depending on how many are available: Amber, Blonde and Red at the time of my recent visit.

Bit plain and basic hotel bar, one room split into two areas, mainly high stools around tables, the other has lower seating. Bit minimalist but its tidy and has good beer

After the match & with a 30 minute wait before our train back to Lancaster we had a chance for a quick pint in this large hotel by the Station.

Owned and managed by Lancaster Brewery, the refurb has been very well done and is by far the nicest and well run pub in Barrow (in my opinion). Geared up for diners and a night time crowd, the place was starting to get busy by 5.30pm.

Always good to see that a brewery pub have their own ales on and the Duke of Edinburgh is no different, with a good number of Lancaster ales on the hand pumps, I went for a very good pint of Sorachi @ 4.1%.

Notably more expensive here than in the other pub but as a I say this is much nicer and would not look out of a place in a larger town or city.

Unsure if I will ever return to the town of Barrow but if I do this place will be my first and possibly only stop. Well worth a visit as far as I’m concerned.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Duke Of Edinburgh Hotel

Would have given this place a miss (thinking it to be a dull hotel bar) had my train not been delayed slightly, so I was very surprised to find an attractive modern bar with eight handpumps inside. Run by the Lancaster Brewery, it had four of their beers (including the decent Red, £1.70 for a quick half) plus four guests. Didn't really have time to take things in properly, but would certainly return next time I'm in Barrow.

I was soaking wet, having just walked down from the match, where Barrow lost to Alfreton. I had half an hour before catching the train to get back to where i was stopping, i was without my GBG and didn't really know where i was. The nearest place was the Duke of Edinburgh - which turned out to be the only GBG in town. A fantastic looking Vic/Edwardian corner red brick hotel, with stone moulding lancet and dormer windows, as well as a two storey oriel window. The interior has an open plan room part partitioned. It is modern in decor; brick, white and brown walls, cream ceiling and wood floor, with copious high stools and tables, and comfy seats. The walls have arty stuuf, modern paintings and mirrors on them and of course, they do food - though i didn't try it. There were silent TVs and the music was general and at a decent level. The service was really good, a friendly and knowledgable chap behind the bar. There were a few others in, not sure if they were guests or not. Beer; usual tap stuff, with continental lagers. There are 8 handpulls; four of which were Lancaster Amber, red, gold and Black - all of which were decent. A decent Greenedd Citrus was also on and a shockingly bad Liverpool Three Graces - the other clips were turned around. This bar isn't my scene regarding decor etc, but the beer (except the Liverpool stuff) was really good. Surely a definite if in Barrow.

John Bonser left this review about Duke Of Edinburgh Hotel

A recent business trip to Barrow resulted in an overnight stay in The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel.
It’s a large Victorian building occupying a prominent street corner position close to Barrow railway station. A major refurbishment in 2006 created a contemporary stylish 30 room hotel whilst still retaining some attractive original features.
The modern, airy ground floor bar strikes a good balance between acting as a hotel bar and appealing equally to non residents. Two separate, but adjoining areas have a mixture of comfortable seating and some awkward tall perches and tables. A highlight is a real fire. Standard good value bar meals are served. Reflecting the need not to be totally reliant on hotel guests, a weekly live music evening is held.
The hotel is owned by the same company who own Lancaster Brewery and 4 of their beers – Amber, Blonde, Dark and Red – were available. A second bank of 4 handpumps was serving Adnams Bitter, Thwaites Bomber, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin and Castle Rock HPA – a very impressive and enterprising range in my book. The 3 Lancaster beers sampled by me – Amber, Red and Dark – were all fine pints in excellent condition. The spicy robust, full bodied Red is especially worth sampling. The establishment is listed in the CAMRA 2011 Good Beer Guide – its first listing, it would appear.
I’d be surprised if there were many ( if any ) better places in Barrow with as good a beer range as this and I’d be happy to eat, drink and stay here again if ever in Barrow.
Finally, don’t forget to admire the statue of Emlyn Hughes on the street corner opposite the hotel – a reminder for English football fans of memorable days long gone.
