A small country inn with an admirable focus on real ale.Once through the front door ,the bar is immediately ahead with three handpumps dispensing well kept Maldon Gold,Cottage Brewing Boadguage and London Pride. To the left of the bar is a carpeted lounge with a few circular tables,it wouldnt take many punters to pop in for the pub to seem busy. There is a large garden with a marquee where regular mini beer festivals are held.Bar snacks are available at weekends but being a small family run establishment the concept of fast service is non existent, you will have a fair wait for food even if the pub is quiet.I would return for a beer or two.

every 3rd Saturday there's a mini beer festival...you pay for your pint and then fill the glass yourself from a selection of around 8 real ales on offer from the al fresco bar just outside from the main bar area

Took good note of the reviews and ensured that our visit was 3rd weekend, and rewarded with stills in the marquee offering Buntingford 92 Squadron, Oatmeal Stout, Lightning, Mighty Oak Firkin Gorgeous, Blackwater Blonde, Coach House Honey Pot, Outlaw Wild Mule, these in addition to those on pump in the bar, namely Woodforde Wherry, Maldon Gold, Pride. We were invited to taste those in the self-service marquee, but don't take the proverbial…, then took our beers inside to pay. What a very friendly welcome and the guv took some time to talk to us, helped me find my pint mysteriously placed under our table, and one of his guys helped out after it slipped through my fingers and shattered, hmmm can you see a pattern here? You really are in the country here, among thatched buildings and fields, although the pub itself feels relatively new. Outstanding quality and service, tho, means we'll be back on another 3rd Saturday, and I'll take me velcro gloves!

A real corker of a pub selling a range (including a mild on my visit) of well-kept ales and ciders/perries. Was lucky enough to drop in on the 3rd weekend of the month and sample the beer lovers fest in a lovely beer garden with marquee. Perhaps the most remarkable feature of this is that the Landlord (who is a thoroughly good egg and has a passion for beer) uses an honesty box for the guest beers and allows you to pour them out yourself! Due to this I didn’t really catch much of the interior. I did note though that there’s no TV's or fruit machines, just beer!

Admittedly I am biased because I visited on a wonderful sunny day during their festival, so I can’t comment on how it is regularly. But for a summer Saturday in the sunshine with a festival beer, this is close to unbeatable.
