Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Firefly

This is the closest half decent place to Shrub Hill station. It was busy on our Sunday evening visit and whilst I don't recall much, as I'd had a few by this time, I do recall a ground floor bar with stairs leading up to toilets and further seating alongside steps leading down to what I assume was a cellar bar.

Just 3 real ales were on - Salopian Oracle, Holden's Golden Glow & Millstone Tiger Rut. There also appeared to be a number of craft beers and 2 real ciders from Orchard Pig - Navel Gazer & Ginger & Chilli.

Still rocking the bordello alehouse vibe and fair play to them as the place seems to be doing well. A good selection available over the four pumps and my Cloudwater Mild was pretty good, NBSS 3.5. Keep it tight, keep the beer moving. Sensible strategy.

Unlike my previous visit a couple of years back I popped in during the evening this time and the pub really did come alive somewhat, with the tart’s boudoir feel actually working rather well - dark but atmospheric as opposed to glum and dingy. Seems to be fully promoting itself as a craft beer bar these days and the line-up was very impressive if you crave hops: Dark Star American Pale, Castle Rock Harvest Pale and Magic Rock Ringmaster (which came out extremely well) and Buxton Moor Top (ditto). Two Hogans ciders and a number of high-end craft keg beers (Kernel, Magic Rock) also on. They’ve even managed to source the obligatory hipster barman to round off the look. As mentioned below, this is geared towards the younger end of the market but there seemed to be a fair mix of punters in situ and it was very busy. Not bad at all and I’d be prioritising this one over some other Worcester stalwarts next time I’m in the city. It certainly knocks some of the London craft beer bars I’ve done recently into a cocked hat. Rated 8

It doesn’t much look like a pub from the outside and doesn’t really look much like one inside either. The interior is part tart’s boudoir, part gentleman’s club - dark, leather and crushed velveteen seats, candles and umpteen fairly lights. Apparently once a vinegar manager’s house, so they’d best be careful not to allow ale-types to have an excuse to start making the obvious jokes. Four were on (Holdens, Butcombe, Mad Goose and one called Californiacation from who-knows-where) along with two Westons ciders, oddly situated just under the bar counter. I was happy with mine and had another. There are also some decent bottled beers to be had as well as some higher-end keg products. Staff were young and friendly. The trendy music selection was perhaps a little too trendy for me. Worth a visit for the novelty value and the beer should keep you interested once that’s worn off. Rated 6

More bar than pub, with six handpumps and four beers on during my visit, from Enville, Mallisons, New Bristol and Siren, I had Suspended in Rainbow from the latter which was perfectly fine on a day typified by average beer in the main.

Thought I knew worcester but this was only discovered thanks to the Good Beer Guide.

A very decent real ale oasis - more on the trendy side - beautiful interior and good music.

Found on my walk - blogged at http://bit.ly/2dOOmYn

Outside The Firefly is an imposing Georgian building complete with winding, railed steps up to a porticoed entrance. Inside it's a modern and trendy bar with a live band playing on the first floor on our visit.
The atmosphere in here is good and the staff friendly but it isn't your traditional pub. Nonetheless, the beer selection is good, the live band wasn't too intrusive downstairs and it's a pleasant spot to enjoy a pint.
Beers on were: Tiny Rebel Cwtch and SNAFU, Crouch Vale Mosaic, a Firefly house beer and Firefly Hogans Cider with one handpump empty. A small but decent selection and the Cwtch was tremendous.
Not to be missed for the ale seeker.

Malden man left this review about The Firefly

Last pub before the train home after a very heavy weekend, boarded floor, leatherette benches to one side with spirits bottles over, a fireplace had a deers head mounted above. Venetian blinds, lilies in a vase on the corner of the bar, fancy twinkling ceiling lights, posh armchairs. Food is served, floral wallpaper, dog friendly, some mutt was mooching around.
Good beer and cider selection, Gloucester Gold and Cascade, Oakham Inferno and something from Tiny Rebel, cider from Barbourne. A band were setting up for later in the half split level area. Apart from that it was all a bit hazy I'm sorry but I recall the pub being definitely on the A-list.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Firefly

An imposing townhouse, with noticeably large windows at ground and firs-floor level, that is not obviously a pub until you get to the front steps. Strange mix of styles, decor- and furniture-wise, inside the main bar and lower side seating area. Good choice of real ales and ciders from six handpumps, including a decent pint of Buxton Moor Top. Slightly out of the city centre, but well worth seeking out.

More hip than a lot of pubs visited by the PuG crawl, but interesting never the less. The steep external steps lead to the main bar with the serving area set along a rear wall.Pillars break up the interior to an extend but the furniture and wall coverings mark this out as a younger person bar,pub traditionalists may be a little put off.Food is served but the challenge to eat 10 spicey chicken wings in under 5 minutes was not attempted by the PuG crew despite the prize of two free pints to anyone who manages it.To one side is a sunken snug ,dark but different while upstairs there is a function room, booked on our visit.
At the bar the six handpumps were dispensing two real ciders,Dark Star APA,Castle Rock Harvest Pale,Buxton Moor Top and a very good Magic Rock Ringmaster for £1.80 the half.Good line up and rightly in the 2014 GBG.I also spotted Kernal IPA and Magic Rock High Wire on keg, which shows a good appreciation for some of the leading microbrewers, and would be enough for me to spend a lot longer in here on my next visit.
It's different and well worth including on any real ale tour, one of the leading pubs in Worcester IMHO.

Enjoyed our visit to the brewpub that is in the 2014 Good Beer Guide. Intersting to walk around and explore. We were sat in the main bar area, but down a few stairs is a lower level with more comfy type seating, then you can go outside to a decent sized drinking area. I went up a fire escape from there and could see through doors an upper room used I believe is used for live music. Pleased to find two of their own beers on, and we enjoyed Firefly Simcoe, and Firefly Southern Cross.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Firefly

Really enjoyed the microbrewery beers here, the barmaid was friendly and chatty. Also enjoyed sitting out in the rear patio. Four ales and two ciders, the Glaslyn ales from Porthmadog were superb. The Dark Star American Pale Ale was also spot on. We decided to get off at Scrub Hill station to make this our first pub on our crawl around Worcester. A good starting point on the day.
