A Lloyds No.1 JDW variant in a modern building (part of the Symphony Hall development as mentioned below). Modern and bland interior, usual post 1999 Spoons fittings. The plate glass windows either side at least lets some light in and there are at least canal views at the far side. A small ale selection (only five) though there were two big %abv beasts on from the American collaboration range. Deciding that a 6.5% or 7% was perhaps a tadge too much at 11.15 on a Friday morning (even for me) I unwisely went for a daft pumpkin beer from Wychwood that was flat and listless. The member of staff who served me was brand new and struggled to get anything right, so I secreted the beer rather than clamouring for a replacement. Overall, not a huge amount to recommend it.

Built as a part of the 1990 ICC and Symphony Hall development, this Lloyds No1 Bar has a patio over-looking the historic Gas St canal basin. The road frontage is simply glass and the place has two floors, but i didn't see the upper. The lower floor has the serving bar to the left, then an open split-level room in blue and patterend wallpaper, with a large central column or two. The walls have a few mirrors, but little else and the seating is a mix from the sofas to the high stools. There are several silent TVs showing different things and there was some background music, played pretty quietly. The service was fine, the place had a small mix for a lunchtime visit and the food was the usual Spoonsy food. Beer; usual taps with Abbot, Rddles, UBU and Mad Goose on handpull. I was working, so just had a coke, but the UBU i saw at least wasn't flat! It did its job and i would pop in again.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Soloman Cutler (JD Wetherspoon)

The service here was quick on our visit and the clientele was quite decent enough. Five ales were available, settled on two from Purity. We went for Purity Mad Goose and Purity UBU, which were top notch. The interior is non-descript, but the views of the canal basin make up for it.

On very busy Broad St. Nicest JDW by miles in City. Two floored and you can watch traffic clogging along Broad Street. On the other side, you can see narrow boat navigate on canal. Thank God, unlike other JDWs, no chavs or drunks to contend with. Most customers are well suited business man/woman. Easy and quick service. Famous Birmingham ferris wheel is only one min away. There is another JDW down the road, Figure of Eight.

This Lloyds No 1 is getting a bit shabby these days, it's much better viewed at night when the lights are dimmed. It has no distinguishing features really, it's just a large barn with some seating and a dance floor, although there is an upstairs bar with seating which is open at busy times. Three handpumps on the bar serving Pedigree, Abbot and Highgate Dark. I had a pint of the Highgate which was surprisingly good and was only £1.59. There are three quiz machines in here, one downstairs and two upstairs. I wouldn't want to be here for a session, but it's OK for one.

Huge Wetherspoons with large screen TV's. Lots of comfy seating. Service is brisk and friendly. Gets vey busy in the evening. One of the better in the chain
