This is a large single room pub with wooden flooring and half panelled walls which give it something of the feel of a slightly smarter version of a Wetherspoons. There’s a good array of seating across the open floor plan with high tables and stools near the servery, a couple of sofas near the front door and bench and standard seating elsewhere. Some low partitioning walls in a cross shape in the middle of the room break the space up quite effectively and have glass panels with the pub’s cat symbol etched on them. A few beer signs are dotted around the walls, but otherwise the decor is fairly minimal, which is a shame as the place doesn’t have a great deal of character. Music played in the background throughout my stay and many of the other customers were enjoying food from a varied menu which prices main meals around the £8-9 mark.
The pub specialises in bottled beers, with a small bottle shop (The Beer Box) next to the bar offering 150 different beers. Cask ale fans are well catered for as well, as there are twelve hand pumps on the bar which on my visit were dispensing Bradfield Devonshire Cat Bitter and Farmers Blonde, Abbeydale Deception, Acorn Delta IPA, Oakwell Barnsley Bitter, Kelham Island Pale Rider, Thornbridge Jaipur, Young’s London Porter, Derby Penny’s Porter and Business as Usual, Phoenix Hopsack and Newsome Trial By Porter. In addition to all that, there is also a wide selection of cider, perry and continental lagers.
This is a versatile sort of pub and although it’s not got the ambiance of some of Sheffield’s more traditional ale houses, it more than holds its own on the beer front and should be included on any crawl around the city centre.

Been here with colleagues twice recently and found it a really good place to go for a drink and/or a meal. It doesn’t look anything special from outside, being a modern bar on the ground floor of a block of flats, with an open feel to it and estate pub decor. However it serves a wide range of mainly local real ales from 12 fully populated hand pumps (I found Great Heck Slaughterhouse Porter, Acorn Santiam IPA, Bank Top Pavilion and Thornbridge Sequoia all very tasty) and a wide selection of speciality bottled offerings as well as the usual tap stuff. The food menu is fairly standard pub fare but very well done (we came here to eat first time on our hotelier’s recommendation, and came back because we really liked it). Most customers here seem to be groups of friends or family. In short, I doubt you would choose here to bring a young lady on a first date, but it is a very comfortable place to which you could happily bring anyone on just about any other occasion.

Haven't been here for a while although it is still a pub to be visited when on the "Holy City" crawl for real ale. Always has a good selection available, and no fault in beer condition. Chose Cottage and Toad beers this visit. We were in early so it was quiet.

A modern ,open plan bar which I agree does have the look and feel of a 'spoons. The wooden furniture is a little more upmarket. The draw here is the vast beer and lager selection with 12 real ales, some unusual draught lagers and a very extensive menu of bottled beers ,mainly Belgian but with German and American offerings as well.I also liked the glass pannelled beer store room to the right of the bar, where you get a feel for the depth of the bottled stock.
I popped in for lunch, and there is a reasonable choice from soup with a cob at £3 to more extensive dishes around £10,many customers were eating.
The real ale choice includes a lot from local breweries, and a good choice of styles and my pint of Acorn Sonnet IPA was fine ,possibly not one of Acorn's greatest brews. The pub wasn't busy ,so I didn't experience serving delays mentioned below and although this isn't a traditional pub and the musak is loud , I would have no problem returning in future to sample their beers.

This is a modern looking pub underneath a small block of flats.
Once inside the bar was on the right and there was one largish room which was full of students on my visit.
I counted about 10 real ales on the bar and these were from micro brewerys i had a drink of Kelham Pale Rider which was a very nice drink there was also Acorn Barnsley bitter and Abbeydale Moonshine i did'nt write the rest down.
The pub was smart enough but a bit too busy for me to really enjoy my drink here.

On a Friday evening around 7 this was an excellent bar with a relatively upmarket clientele, although it can be filled with students at times. Great range of ever changing cask ales always including a couple from Abbeydale. Seating varies from dining tables to armchairs & sofa's to high tables for standing. Plenty of staff on as well. Nice place to call in.

However we tried to get a pint in here on the Saturday evening. Three deep at the bar and only 2 serving. We gave up after 10 minutes. Get some more staff on guys!

A good pub ruined by lack of staff.

Semi-famous ale outlet situated below a large block of student digs housed in a modern-Wetherspoons-like interior (clearly new and open-plan but trying to be trad) enhanced by large glass windows which give a nice light and airy feel. There's lots of interesting ales available (around 10), listed above the bar on chalkboards with a bit of info – which in actuality bore little relation to what was really coming out of the handpump…which concerned me slightly. So I tried two ales, both of which were tired and past their best – rather like the girl who was serving in actual fact – very little idea of what she was doing. On the upside, there's lots of foreign beers available (take a look through the glass-sided storage room window) and on the showing of the ale, I'd advise you to stick with those if you come here out of term-time. The toilets have some excellent quality tiling (yes, you can tell I'm looking for positives here, can't you?). The phrase “caught it on a bad day” must suffice. I certainly wouldn't recommend it here based on this experience, that's for sure. Perhaps the only excuse is that I went in on a weekday out of term-time. But that's very flimsy given its reputation/hype.

Visited this week for the first time in a while and this place is still as brilliant as ever - it perplexes me it only gets a 7.2 rating on this website. The selection of guests was outstanding - I had terrific pints from Acorn and Allgates breweries plus a very nutty mild from the Derwent brewery. Sharps, Thornbridge, Kelham Island, Abbeydale and Barnsley breweries also represented. This pub is stupidly good.

Devonshire Cat Best Bitter(?), Abbeydale Moonshine, Fernandes(Wakefield) Garnet, Barnsley Bitter, Thornlaw Jaipur IPA & Saint Petersburg, Acorn Perle IPA, Gt Newsome brewery ‘Pricky Back Otchan' (pumpclip states ‘What a mouthful'), Rudgate Aris'Ale & Quaff, Phoenix Hopsack, 1 unclipped. The bottle store (‘tap room' effect) to rt of bar is a good feature, otherwise the décor has something of a ‘spoons/chef&brewer stylee, but look again at that beer list & forgive any architectural shortcomings! Clientele bridges a large age range. Specials board offered Wild Mushroom ristto £5.50, Seabass fillet £10, Lamb rump £11, Venison casserole £8. Beer prices rose by abv, avg £2.45, good range, well worth a look.
