This is a funny pub because it has got York brewerys shop at the front of it,this is a York brewery tied house and it has a good choice of beers on the bar we did'nt see a lot of the pub because we sat at the bar on the bar stools we were quite comfortable here our first drink was York Stonewall and this was very nice then when they pulled the Yorkshire terrier off we had a drink of that which we prefered,we would have happily stayed here all night but our bus left at 6.00.

Called in again on Monday afternoon. It was packed as a torrential downpour had just started. Had a very nice pint of York Blonde though. CAMRA members & York Brewery Club members get 10% off here except on Mondays. I'm a member of both, but they won't let me have 20% off :-)) Monday is discount day, so all pints are £2.10 anyway. Despite the crowds it was still easy to get served. We always visit here when we're in York, it's a class pub.

Nice pub, well hidden from the masses behind the York Brewery shop. Several well kept York beers plus a guest or two, always a good atmosphere in here. Upstairs is another room that used to be the non smoking room. If you can get the seats at the table near the window you can watch all human life pass by on Stonegate especially on a busy Saturday night. We watched the bouncers at the Punch Bowl trying to eject a drunk, the police arresting a beggar and about 20 girls wearing very little (probably from Newcastle) flashing their bits at all and sundry. It's great.

“The one at the back of a shop”, that is York brewery's shop in Stonegate with a long thin pub behind and with a room upstairs with the bow window looking out on to Stonegate and its varied delights. Doorstairs you enter via a corridor to the side of the shop and turn right into the bar, straight on leads upstairs. The barcounter is to the left in a square room and to the back is a conservatory of sorts and another sitting area with a small portion of counter carrying three handpulls but these were unused when I looked. Six pulls on the other serving naturally enough York beers plus two guests, from Springhead on this occasion. Fairly basic décor of mirrors, brewery ephemera, etc, although the wallpaper at the back is a bit loud. A Saturday lunchtime last time I called and the two staff were a bit overwhelmed with serving behind the bar, in the shop and waitressing. Probably not quite as good as the other two York Brewery pubs in the city.

An interesting boozer as mentioned and described in previous reviews. Very quiet on our visit although it was Monday evening. Beers on were from York Brewery: Guzzler, Yorkshire Terrier, Ghost and Consantine and from Tring: Blonde, Mansion Mild, England's Pride and Side Pocket. I assume that York has a deal with Tring so probably best not to expect an enormous range outside these two breweries. Having said that with such well kept and presented Yorkshire Terrier there was little need for us to look any further.

Very good review from Rex R ,so will only add that there was a very warm and friendly welcome from the barmaid who was the font of all knowledge on the York real ale scene and also directed us to the best places to eat in the curry quarter.I enjoyed my York brewery ales ,and no complaints from my crew about beer quality from the large ale range. The stena stair lift to the first floor gents may well come in handy on any extended crawl in the city centre .A small shop conversion , quiet on our visit but with a regular quiz night,I would happily return.

This doesn’t look much like a pub from the outside, as the York Brewery Gift Shop occupies the front room of the building. You get to the pub part at the back either by walking through the shop, or via a short corridor on the left. The main bar counter is on the left in a small room immediately behind the shop, with a couple of tables in it, and leads to another small room behind it with another three tables, banquette seating and a few stools. There is also another small room on the right, brightly lit with a large skylight, containing some more tables and chairs, plus a couple of sofas and potted plants. For a pub with three rooms, it’s still pretty small. Apparently it’s only been a pub since 2004, hence there is nothing old about it as a pub, but somehow it does have the feel of a real pub about it notwithstanding the false bare boards and the lower half of the walls at the back painted that ubiquitous grey/green colour.
This is a York Brewery pub, with a half dozen or more handpumps on the bar. The bar counter stretches round to the back room, and I spotted a couple of hanpumps in this area that might not be immediately apparent when walking up to the bar. I had the England’s Best, which was unfortunately not in brilliant nick, but was drinkable. The food prices didn’t seem to be extortionate – e.g. a cheese & chutney ciabatta sarny was £5.50. I think I’d give it another chance to produce me a decent pint if I was in York again.

A great little pub (converted from a shop and a winner of a CAMRA award for the conversion, I believe). It serves the full range of York Brewery beers in excellent condition as you'd expect from a tap and the bar staff were knowledgeable and friendly. There are a number of different small drinking areas inside, with a York brewery shop at the front and a conservatory to the rear. Basic food was available. Was full to rafters when I went on Saturday night - understandably so. The only downside was that it felt rather cramped but for York that's often the way things are.

Well-worth the visit.

Hidden behind the York Brewery gift shop, pleasent pub with full range of York beers available. For those wanting to try a few beers a 4 x1/3 pint tasting tray is available. A range of imported bottled beers is also available.
Food served 12-4 & 6-9 and looked good.
Upstairs family room has views across York.
Toilets upstairs but a stair lift is available.
