The welcome from the young barmaid here was very friendly and she was especially informative about other local watering holes of quality, not wanting us to wander into anywhere not serving good ale. She was also knowledgable about the 7 real ales on offer which included beers from Thwaites, Acorn and Elland. The York England's Pride was very good and slipped down easily. A quality establishment and well worth a visit.

An establishment dedicated to serving quality drinks and food,I enjoyed my trip here. There is a wide selection of ale, mostly rotating guests and a range of beer styles. There is a long list of bottled and draught continental lagers and I would guess a very solid wine list. The modern interior extends a long way from the shop frontage and the numbered tables indicates that this is probably more an eating venue during the day.The lounge atmosphere at night no doubt deters the more buoyant Micklegate crawlers ,and if your focus is solely on enjoying a quiet pint or two, this is a good bolthole.

Old Boots left this review about Brigantes

A Market Town Tavern decorated in house style with big clear windows, brown and cream colour scheme with tasteful beer related, mirrors, pictures and posters. A good range of mainly local cask beers and well chosen interesting foreign kegs served by smart attentive staff. Beer quality was well up to the high standards of this small pub group. Traditional furnishings in the large single room, the rear area at a lower floor level is more pub lounge like than the front section with the bar counter. Customers were a mix of middle aged beer fans and some couples.

Excellent non-smoking pub which is part of the Market Town Taverns chain. A wide range of changing real ales and large selection of foreign bottled beers. Food looked very nice as well.
