Real Ale Ray left this review about Waiting Rooms

Five handpumps with three ales on, Saltaire Blonde, Wychwood Hobgoblin, a supposedly good choice for Halloween and the third ale was Doombar. The pub interior was traditional in style and décor, which also included the dreaded electronic gaming machine on the right of the entrance, luckily no one was using it on our visit as the pub is too small.

Looks bigger than it is, unless there are parts I missed. A single room as you enter with the bar to your right. 5 handpumps on the bar and a good selection of real ale on them from local breweries. Its a bare floored place and it was an ok pub. The exterior is still Liverpool City Council Purple. I tried to have a conversation with what was apparently the manager but buggered if I could understand a word he said. Additional: on going to the toilet I noticed that there is a snug and beer yard to the rear so that makes it a 2 roomed pub.

Will Larter left this review about Baht'ap

Shocking to discover the former Prince of Wales in a hideous purple paint job and a ridiculous new name. Even more shocking to be charged £3.70 for two halves of Rudgate Ruby Mild. I remonstrated good-naturedly with the landlord, who kindly pointed out that I was lucky he'd charged me the price of a pint, rather than twice the price of a half. I jocularly suggested that this being Leeds rather than London it was a little surprising to be charged more than £3.50 at all. He countered with the price of Timothy Taylor's Landlord: £4.10. I parried that TTLL was well known as a rip-off and why couldn't he charge prices nearer to the £3 mark, like they do in Sheffield. His mate, apparently also in the licensed trade, chimed in with the diagnosis that low beer prices are the reason why Sheffield is a ghost town. Never having heard the beer capital of England described as a ghost town before, I retired to a stool to lick my wounds and sup my beer, which to be fair was in very good condition. (Note the review below from 2014, when a pint was £2.90 - presumably at a time when Leeds was a ghost town.) We parted on good terms, the landlord saying he looked forward to seeing me in 10 years, me threatening never to darken his door again.

After a refurb, The Prince of Wales is now known as Baht'ap, a 'cask and craft' bar.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Prince Of Wales

Rather run-down looking place which I have avoided in recent years, but tidy enough inside the wedge-shaped main bar. Plainly furnished and decorated, with the only real feature being the fireplace. Down to three handpumps on the counter, with York Guzzler, Camerons Strongarm and Leeds pale (£2.90) on offer. Smaller pool room / bar to the rear. 'To let' sign outside when I visited recently, but I hope this survives as a traditional city-centre boozer.

A traditional two-roomed city pub, tucked away in a side street at the feet of Leeds station. It’s been a good couple of years since I last visited, partly due to a period of closure, and in that time it’s obviously had a refurb, going down the heavier, darker route with a slightly more modern, pared back feel.

In the main wedge-shaped room, walls are coffee coloured, with dark brown railing, the dark wallpaper has shades of grey and black and the carpet also has a black pattern. If I said the high backed leather effect benches were also black, you probably get the idea. There are a couple of high tables and stools, but also more traditional round tables and captains chairs. It’s good to see that the long wall bench has been maintained on the right hand side. (The smaller rear room was occupied by a group meeting, on this visit; so it was very difficult assess the changes.)

The bar, in the right hand corner looks largely unchanged and still features four hand pumps. On this visit the beers were Landlord, Hobgoblin and Copper Dragon ‘Golden Pippin’. (The Leeds ‘Pale’ had just gone off). Opting for the Golden Pippin, it was a decent temperature but maybe lacking a little freshness? Certainly not of the quality of my last visit. Service from the friendly young barman was fine.

Atmosphere wise, it was fairly dead at 9p.m. on the Wednesday evening I called. There were only half a dozen of us in the place. However, a large mixed crowd of thirty something’s did arrive just as I was leaving. Regarding ‘oldboots’ experience with the ‘shaven heads’, I suspect whether United are playing at home, or not, has an influence. Known for many years as a watering hole for some of the club’s more notorious ‘crews’, I wouldn’t be surprised if a few fans were winding down there, after the game, that day.

Overall, I thought it had lost a little of its appeal from my last visit, but I would certainly consider calling again if in the area. It’s still a decent reserve if the nearby Scarbrough is rammed, as it often is. Worth a punt.

Old Boots left this review about The Prince Of Wales

A very quick visit one Saturday night, the pub's not bad, the beer better but the clientele are a bit different, shaved heads appear obligatory unless you can claim to be eccentric in some visible way. Four pulls but three, Landlord, Leeds Pale and one other, were with clips reversed, Hobgoblin on the remaining pump and in absolutely cracking condition. I'll pop back some time when it's quieter, hairier, and hopefully there's more choice of beer.
