Popped in for a quick lunch on a wet Monday. The place was quite busy but the service was good. The food was reasonable. I spotted Woods Shropshire Lad, Purity Ubu and Exmoor Gold amongst the usual suspects. My pint of Shropshire Lad was fine. Not a bad Spoons.

Called in for a late breakfast and enjoyed both the food and the beer. Better selection than most due to the beer festival being current, and our choices were Cotleigh Styrian Wolf, Robinsons Freddy Brewger, and Roosters Twenty Four Seven.

Soup Dragon left this review about George Hotel (JD Wetherspoon)

A Spoons. Patio at the back. Impressive from the outside, with dormer and bay windows, but sadly the single and very long room (removing much of the historic feel) and covered conservatory area quickly tested my patience. A few photos for interest, the moulded ceiling perhaps its best feature along with a carved wood fireplace, the place was busy and the usual lack of staffing problems arose (although the individual service was fine). Mrs Soup and the youngest Soupette ate as I left to find a real beer, dodging the strange contemporary art on the way out. No music, silent TVs. Usual beers with something equally as dull - I had Thatcher's cider as a protest. Tosh.

Old Boots left this review about George Hotel (JD Wetherspoon)

An old hotel with typically Wetherspoons weird attempts at making it open plan. Bits of old pub remain, mostly old (?) panelling but it's an incoherent mess which some have called "rambling", presumably in the mental health meaning of the word. Two banks of pumps as usual with the rear-most group having the interesting beers, the front bank the usual suspects. My pint of Oakham was decidedly green and probably responsible for my feeling a bit liverish the next day. On the plus side the service was pretty snappy.

Aqualung . left this review about George Hotel (JD Wetherspoon)

The George is one of JDW's hotels. As noted below it's a rambling old building with the bar roughly in the middle and a makeshift conservatory next to it.
The bar has ten hand pumps but as is becoming depressingly common the choice was poor with the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled up, a festival ale from the beer festival well over a month ago, Shepherd Neame Todd the Axeman, Otter Ale and Mauldon's Blackadder. I went for the Blackadder (£2.75) which was expensive by Spoons standards but in good nick. The standard guest ale price here is £2.59 and most of the food is more expensive than average.
I wasn't impressed with this one and wouldn't return.

Decent enough spoons with a rambling interior , very busy on my late Sunday afternoon visit but service was quick and friendly , the two beers i tried were in good nick .
For some reason the female staff were all dressed as sexy pirates ........ extra points from me there .

Quinno _ left this review about George Hotel (JD Wetherspoon)

A characterful JDW hotel in an aged building. A rambling interior with a covered side courtyard that catches the sunshine. Usual JDW fixtures and fittings that blended in pretty well, plenty of wood panelling to enhance the agedness of the building. A bit of a mish-mash on the ale front, with some off (a perennial issue here by the looks of the reviews below and elsewhere). My Black Cat Reserve was so-so but I suspect it was probably the fag-end of the barrel. Worth taking in.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The George Hotel (JD Wetherspoon)

Ten handpumps on the bar with one out of action and two displaying coming soon. We were ok though as there was a Tom Woods beer on one of the handpumps. An impressive building, so defo worth a visit.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The George Hotel (JD Wetherspoon)

Historic inn, given the makeover as a Wetherlodge hotel but quite a decent job done. The exterior was hidden under scaffolding due to refurbishment when I visited, but as the signs made clear it was open for business as usual. Additional dining area beyond the bar, and also extended via a side conservatory. Not all of the eight handpumps were working (despite the annoying impression given by unreserved clips) but the cask Sir Ruan from the current American craft brewer range (£2.50) was in good form.
