An excellent listed exterior but sadly a bit weird and a little bit spoiled inside. A single downstairs room with a neatly carved counter in the rear centre, seating areas to both sides at tables, nice cast iron based ones. A couple of T-bars with beers out of the national stable are flanked by two unused hand pumps. Fortunately Banks’s MILD albeit in keg form was available otherwise another half of Carling beckoned, it was at lager temperature however. Dark brown wood everywhere although the main feature is a spiral staircase to a mezzanine floor. The space above the counter is supplied with disco light apparatus. A beer garden is advertised but I didn’t visit. Daft opening hours of 11-18:00 Mon-Thur; 11-midnight on Friday 11-01:00 Saturdays and 12-16:00 on Sunday.

Small pub with an impressive frontage. I have used it a few times as it is just round the corner from the train station. No bitter on so only Banks's mild when I last called - which was fine. OK to pop in for one if waiting for the train.

A one roomed pub but with an upper balcony reached via a spiral staircase. Whether there are other parts to this pub I didn't notice. 4 handpumps on the bar but only But on Bitter and Mild on. Some gay literature dotted around so it may or not be a gay bar.

I use it when i'm waitng for a train but i wouldn't say it's worht more than that. They have started having a drag act doing karaoke and it has become know as the "The Pink Lion" locally, I havn't been on the evening as I imagine it gets too full and space is at a premium.

This pub was kept when the other buildings surrounding it were demolished in the 90s as part of a re-development of Townend Bank. The refurb of the pub itself has created a much more pleasant environment during the day and in the evening although it can be a bit of a squeeze downstairs. The only cask ale on offer was Banks's Bitter, which was fine.

It was a useful meeting place before we caught the train to the match and I'd happily pop in again but as long as other places provide more choice I wouldn't spend the whole evening there

Update: A great, late Victorian split facade; brick and stone upper and a deep red decorated bottom.

The interior has two floors, both small, the upper being used for the food side and is accessed by a spiral metal staircase. The main room has a wood floor, white walls, with wood panel and a nice fireplace. There are books and vases arranged on the bookcase, and some arty bits of painting in the corner, so there is sadly a touch of the moderns. There is also a lovely painted mural above the wood bar. The ubiquitous sofa adds to the modern, but is vastly outwieghed by chair and stools. Service is fine, but it was quiet when i went - can get very busy though.

Beer; usual tap stuff, with Banks's MILD, but i had the Banks's Bitter on the handpull, which is about as good as it can be.

Often pop in, especially handy for the train, it is the best of the pubs in its part of Walsall. Worth a visit.
