Real Ale Ray left this review about Brewhouse & Kitchen

We popped in here on Friday lunchtime to find only two other customers sitting having a bite to eat. There were three ales on tap, so we went for the Marksman and the Project Citrus Pale. The young barmaid was short changing the till and we had to point this out.
By the time we got to a table the two beers were as flat as pancakes. I summoned the manageress, who told us cask beer was like that. She was also very unpleasant.
The head brewer thankfully sorted the problem and explained the beers were poured badly. He immediately replaced the beer and problem sorted. Then two sets of customers arrived with their dogs to have a extremely loud barking session at the bar, so we were happy to make a quick exit. Can't see this place lasting too long in my opinion.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about Brewhouse & Kitchen

Large pub and restaurant on a busy road through Sutton Coldfield. The bar is slightly off to the left as you enter, with the brewing equipment slightly off to the right. Seating areas can be found both sides, but extend a fair way to the left. I had the pick of the lot, as I was the only customer inside. Two others were sat in the outdoor patio area at the front, having just finished a weekday lunch. Apparently there is also a large garden to the rear, which I didn't explore. If there were any further customers out there, they certainly didn't make their way to the bar during my visit.

The 4 real ales are all their own. Marksman, The Cup & 004 Oaks are the regulars. A fourth one was called Project Cask Citrus Pale. That was the one I chose, but it didn't really live up to its taste profile. Then again, I've never been a particular fan of Brewhouse & Kitchen beers. Discounts are available for CAMRA members.

The 2 bar staff didn't have an awful lot of work to do and a chef appearing from the kitchen also looked bored. With the Wetherspoon's just along the road having the lion's share of the town centre's drinkers and diners, I'm surprised this pub can stay in business. Perhaps it gets busy of an evening?

I remember drinking in here when it was The Cup a few years ago. I have visited a few times and I like this chain. I went for the Marksman and 004 Oaks. Both were excellent. Well worth a visit.

I had only been to one of this chain before in Bristol. and found 3 of their beers on at this one today. all in good condition. Had a flight of 3 thirds which I was warned would cost more than a pint, and paid £5.10. Not a lot of flavour to the Sutton Pale Ale, but enjoyed the Marksman and Black Belt. Pleasant sitting in the sun at the front of the pub, and we were given a taster glass of Mango Milkshake, a tap beer which was poor at first being so cold, but by the time we had finished the cask beers the flavour was coming through. Enjoyed my visit and would come back.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Brewhouse & Kitchen

Housed in a prominent building, formerly the Cup, but now one of the expanding eponymous chain. Remodelled and thoroughly refurbished when it became a brew-pub, with a traditional appearance to the bar but a more modern look to the feature dining area extension on the road junction corner. Between these two sections, the brewing vessels make an interesting sight. Further seating is also available out on the front patio terrace for the better weather. I found five different beers on the two banks of four handpumps, including a tasty Black Belt porter (£4.00).

I've visited a couple of pubs in this chain previously, in Islington and in Chester. They follow a similar formula, the brewing vessels are on view as you enter, all gleaming copper, decor tends to be rustic, this one has some exposed brickwork, distressed timber wall boarding etc. A large tank contains hops and has a bit of hop related information, bullet point style, a full height curtain suggests one end of the room can be divided off. The long bar is on a back wall, there is a raised area at the far end, beyond the brewing equipment. Seating is at all sorts of different tables, one has a central fire pit.
The previous incarnation can still be seen in areas with The Cup signage remaining externally plus the old leaded windows.
There are ceiling fans which are located in areas where there are downlighters in the ceilings, this causes a strobe light effect which could be a serious issue for some people.
Beers were served in large tankards with handles, they had their own 004 Oaks, Marksman, Sutton Pale Ale, The Cup and Black Belt. There was also Yellow Hammer Carnival cider. I think this was the dearest round of the day, averaging comfortably over £4 a pint. Food is important here and looked to be possibly the main reason why people were in on an early Saturday tea time.
Worth a look if only for the novelty value of seeing the on-site brewery but not one to spend too much time in I think.

Aqualung . left this review about Brewhouse and Kitchen

This was a bonus pub on my tour of North Birmingham Spoons. I found myself waiting at the bus stop outside and spotted the sign that the beers were brewed in an on-premises microbrewery. I discovered the next day that this is part of a small Southern based chain of pubs with this being the only one in the Midlands unless you include Gloucester in that area.
Inside it's an open room with a wooden floor, bare brick and exposed walls. I suspect there are other areas as there seems to be an emphasis on food but I stuck to the bar area. The bar had eight hand pumps with a cider and the others all from their own brewers. I went for a Marksman IPA at which point I was asked if I wanted Marksman I or II. The first was brewed with American hops in Bristol and the second on site with German Hops. I went for the Bristol one which cost a whopping £4.40. It was a decent enough beer in reasonable condition but nothing outstanding. I thought the price was disgraceful for a 5.0% own brewed beer. It's an OK sort of place, I found it rather trendy but with prices like that it gets marked down and I wouldn't return. Assuming the prices are the same or higher I wouldn't visit their other outlets either especially as two are in Islington.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Cup

Another large detached pub with patio area in the mock-Tudor/Jacobean style in half undressed brick and half black beam/white render.

The interior is effectively a long room, with the bar to the left on entry and a dining area (in the dark at my visit) to the right. The décor is red and white, with a white ceiling and a wood floor in the dining bit. The bar area is a little scruffy, with ripped seats taped –up and there is little in the way of pictures on the walls, or ephemera, so it looked a little bare – though the chandeliers were nice!. There were a few TVs, but just the one was on, showing the footy accompanied by loud charty music. The service was fine – the barmaid pointing me in the direction of the ‘Duke’ as a real ale fan, but the clientele were a few loud locals.

Beer; all tap stuff, no real ale, no keg MILD, so had a coke

Really basic, nothing worth seeking out

Real community pub. Where locals drink in here. Seems they shunted more popular pub for this pub. I can see why, they have Darts, Pools, Golf teams and Sky Sports constantly show on TV. I last visited there was in about 2005. Will visit it again.
