Biggest bar in Birmingham - all 82 feet of it - manned by the least number of staff imaginable. 2. On a Saturday.

A long queue, getting a bit fractious. As a former time and motion man (google it), I questioned the logic of sending the staff off a long trip for every coffee mug requested.

£2.57 for a nice brummie stout.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Square Peg (JD Wetherspoon)

The large, elongated bar has plenty of seating (with the best spots being next to one of the many windows), but otherwise the interior is 100% 'spoons-by-numbers'. It has a total of 20 handpumps in four banks of five, not all immediately obvious given the length of the bar counter, and usually with numerous duplicate clips. On this visit, I thankfully found Brummie Blonde from Birmingham Brewery, three more local beers from Solihull - Blonde Star, Hop Star (oddly priced at £2.57) and Super Star - and Goddard's Fuggle-Dee-Dum in addition to the usual trio of Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot.

One of the better ‘Spoons I’ve visited recently. Clean, friendly, with efficient welcoming staff. Ales on were Ruddles, Abbott and Doombar (of course) plus Silhill’s Blonde Star, Oakham’s JHB and three from HB: Happy as Larry, Fireside Ale and Masterpiece. Well worth a visit and a good one for a crawl despite being a bit apart from the other City centre pubs.

Once you managed to work out which entrances are actually unlocked and available, you enter to a long narrow front-facing Spoons in cream and maroon shades with a comfy late 90’s JDW feel. A huge long bar with more pumps than I could count with a good selection available. My Sneck Lifter was a bit warm and ‘long pull’ (NBSS 2.5). Good staff though and an air of cleanliness and order. Decided to partake of the manager’s special - haggis, neapes & tatties with whisky sauce - which came out looking like the aftermath of the norovirus I suffered a few years ago but tasted rather nice. Overall it’s a decent Spoons but bear in mind that the local junkies and scumbags seem to enjoy congregating nearby so keep an eye out as you enter and exit.

Large Spoon's with a very long bar. Usually a decent choice of beers on. It can get very busy and getting served can depend on where you stand. Worth calling in for one.

A large narrow Wethers. 20 handpumps but how many are 'available soon' probably changes daily. A very good selection today and a very busy place on this Monday afternoon. Its similar to a lot of Wethers with no real items of interest apart from the number of handpumps.

Massively long narrow but soulless spoons.

This is a very long narrow bar that on an early Saturday evening already had the bouncers on the door and was rammed. Although there are four banks of five handpumps stretched along the enormous bar two of these were essentially the boring options and another had ciders from the previous festival. The final bank had Banks & Taylor SOS, Daleside Square Rigger IPA, Shepherd Neame Bishop's Finger, Harviestoun Schiehallion, Oakham Bishop's Farewell and White Horse Village Idiot. I went for the Bishop's Farewell (£2.35) which was in reasonably good nick but for some reason was served in one of those hideous dimple jugs. Maybe the barman hearing my foreign accent assumed I was a trendy East London hipster, an easy enough mistake to make.
I was pleased that the prices here in the centre of Brum were the same as the Spoons in Wanstead or post refurbishment Leytonstone. Should this one be GBG 2014 listed though? Surely things are better nowadays than last time I was in the centre of Birmingham when it was ALL Ansell's and M&B.

A long thin 'spoons, so long it has toilets at each end and a confusing entrance strategy. I believe it is the ground floor of the former Lewis's department store. It's decorated in an attempt at a Deco style which doesn't really work. In all respects it's a fairly workaday 'spoons with nothing unusual to comment on, no worse than many, better than some. The choice of beers is poorer than usual and those I had were mediocre.

Called in early so being served wasn't too bad. Instead of the usual square box spoons, this is more elongated. Eight ales on our visit, settled on the Titantic. A handy spot if your better half wants to go the shops near by.
