Soup Dragon left this review about Cock Hotel

A detached Georgian hotel and pub, once called the Cock Inn. It is actually fairly plain, but still oozes character - being in yellow brick with red paintwork - the most interesting features being the dormer window range and the neo-classic porched entrance. The interior has a couple of rooms, although you enter the hotel reception area and there is also a dining room at the back. The main pub rooms have two distinct feels. Off to the right is a smaller room that is a Belgian beer bar. It is in white, with red carpet and a cream and beam ceiling. Belgian signs adorn the walls and the bar sports taps for various continental lagers, as well as a fridge of bottles. We had to sit in here as the main room was so busy, and it had a nice family feel. The main room is in white and red, with a wood floot. There is burner fire at one end. The walls have old photos on them and there are some hanging jugs. The service was very good, and by a chappie in suit, shirt and tie. The clientele in this room was mature and it was very busy. There was is no TV or music, anywhere. Beer here had the usual tap stuff with the following handpulls; Kelham Island Pale Rider, Woods Shropshire Lass, Salopian Oracle, Morton's Monkey Hornsby, Hobsons Bitter and MILD (class) and a Rowton Dark Stout (also class). A great place - a must. I could spend days here.

Old Boots left this review about Cock Hotel

An old coaching inn on the Holyhead road by the looks of things, build in a fork in the road it has a small lounge in the front angle and a biggish L shaped tap room down the main side with the hotel reception in between. The tap room is nicely furnished in traditional style with settles and scrubbed pine tables with a sprinkling of old photos on plain white walls, including a display of photos of regulars holding the pub’ beer mat in exotic or unusual locations. There’s a cheerful landlord of the old “mein host” style and a bunch of happy punters putting each other right and this and that, in other words a classic pub in the traditional style so unmissable if that’s what you like – I do. 8 handpumps , one with a cider, the others mostly local beers with a Phoenix being the furthest travelled all in good nick as a fine collection of CAMRA Pub of the Year awards dating back to 1998 will testify.

Exellent real ale pub on the old A5 Watling Street , the pub is well described in Ale Monsters review , there is no music/TV , the locals were friendly and the barman chatty and knowledgeable , 7 real ales on , Hobsons Bitter and Mild are the permanent ales , the guests on my visit were Ludlow Gold , Shires Redneck , Joules Pale Ale , Ironbridge Citra and Gertie Sweet Stout all local beers , the real cider was Cheddar Valley , there is always a Mild and Stout available . The room to the Right is a Belgium style bar with several Artois beers on draught and around 35 different bottled beers listed in a beer menu all with there own unique glasses , This is a must visit when in the area , highly reccomended

Ale Monster left this review about Cock Hotel

This is a brilliant real ale pub that is a free house, it was an 18th century coaching inn and the three rooms still have some original features. If you enter by the main door at the front of the building nearest to the road junction you will find a small reception area with stairs in the back right corner and a couple of seats either side of the door, all the three rooms adjoin this area. The main public bar is on the left, this is traditional and has a bar counter across the back of the room with several tankards hanging from above, a fire place and wood burning stove in the far left wall, wooden settles and old beams with strings of dried hop plants hanging from them and on the walls were old paintings and various CAMRA awards. On the right of the reception is a smaller bar with a tiny counter in the back left corner near the door and a large bay window on the right which looks out over the road junction, this room was painted all white and is themed as a foreign bottled beer bar with a couple of continental beers on draught. Finally in the back left corner of the building (and easily missed) is a very traditional lounge with nice cast iron fire place in the back wall and wood panelled walls.

Regular ales are Hobsons Best Bitter and Mild with six changing guest beers mainly from Shropshire and neighbouring counties but occasionally from further a field. Some of the guest beers on my visit were Hobsons Town Crier, Salopian Shropshire Gold, Ludlow Boiling Well and Old Chimneys Black Rat Stout (GBG 2011). I had four halves and all were in excellent condition.

A great pub with a little of something for everybody, the place was packed on a Saturday afternoon but the service was friendly and efficient. There was a good atmosphere and the pub has plenty of traditional character. Finally and most importantly from my point of view there was a good selection of local beers that were well kept. What a fantastic pub, it is a must visit if in the area.

Without doubt one of Telford's top pubs, The Cock is a friendly, traditional real ale pub with a great atmosphere and a first-class, ever-changing selection of ales, and it gets better every time I come here. Eight hand-pumps on, I was only able to try one pint of Ludlow Gold, which was excellent. As I usually stay at the Whitehouse, just a few yards away, I will most certainly make this a part of every Telford visit and I would recommend anyone else to do the same.

Thank God for this place. A shining beacon in a town full or dire pubs. Beers on were Hobson's Mild & Bitter of course, plus Sharps Special, Titanic Chocolate & Vanilla stout, Vale Bernwode Forest, Ludlow Gold and Black Rat. Had a Vale, a Mild and a Titanic. All well kept. The mild is £1.96 and the Hobsons Bitter £2.20, compare that with £2.50 for GK IPA at The Wickets along the road. Keep it going guys, you're the only saving grace for occasionally having to stay in Wellington.

Excellent selection of real ales and some Belgian beers too. Cozy and old fashioned. Next to busy traffic light controlled junction on the old A5 so leaving the small car park can be tricky.
