Very handsome pub on the Cartway lane that links old and new town.

Central Island Bar, with wooden floors all around and traditional pub furniture. Decking terrace around the back, with views over the Severn.

Great bar staff - and a choice of around 6 real ales on, including two from Three Tuns.

Perfect condition.

Faultless pub.

Having parked my bicycle in Low Town and walked past this pub on my way up to explore High Town, I promised myself a beer here on the way back down. It's a fine looking pub, with a strange history recounted in a panel on the front wall, saying that it had started at No.67, moved to No.17 in 1831 and "finally settled here at No.58 Cartway in 1889". Or perhaps the local council renumbered the street.

Once inside this turned out to be a welcoming and lively local, though it became quieter during my stay - not something I said, just a group of regulars around the bar gradually remembering they had other things to do that afternoon. The large central bar had six hand pumps, with Old Rosie cider, plus five real ales: Purity Mad Goose and Saddle Black, Salopian Helix, Belhaven Gold and Wychwood Gangly Ghoul. I went for the Saddle Black, as much because of the bicycle on the pump clip as because I fancied a 5.8% black IPA: luckily it was a very good beer.

I enjoyed my brief stay here, and found the atmosphere convivial and the room itself very pleasant, with its open fire, quarry tiled floor and winter daylight still apparent through the large windows. There's a patio garden at the back, with a former pub sign depicting a black boy of the wrong type, if the pub's history of being named after Charles II is correct. I'd like to do a longer visit to Bridgnorth one day (sans bicyclette) and this will definitely be on my to do list.

The Black Boy Inn is a nice looking pub that is situated on the nice looking Cartway.
Once inside there is a single U shaped room with the bar on the right side, the floor is tiled, there is bench seating and normal tables and chairs.
There were six real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Purity Gold, which went down well with a cob,the other real ales were Wye Valley Butty Bach,Hobsons Bitter,Black Boy Bitter,GK ST Edmunds and one more i failed to read my notes of.
Background music was playing.
The pub was very busy on our Saturday afternoon visit.

A good traditional pub where you will find the majority of drinkers enjoying a good pint of ale. There were six handpumps repeated on both sides of the bar. I was lucky on our visit as they had Black Hole Brewery Cosmic on handpump, which slipped down quite nicely. The pub also sold fresh cobs on the bar, which were constantly being restocked due to demand. The old photo of the bridge taken in 1892 in the gents toilet was interesting. The pub had a nice relaxed atmosphere, so be prepared to linger here.

This was the only pub visited in the Low Town after making the descent on the nearby Cliff Railway. As described below it consists of two areas with a more or less island bar and red tiles in the area I was in.
The bar has six hand pumps which had Belhaven Burns Brown, GK XX Mild & Yardbird, a house Black Boy Bitter, Sadler's Detox and Holden's Golden Glow. I went for the Golden Glow (£3.20) which was in great condition. I thought the beer choice here was rather disappointing, why three beers from the GK stable? I also thought it was slightly on the trendy side but it looked like the choice of pubs is not as good in the Low Town as it is in the High Town.

Popped in for one on our way down the Cartway. A three piece band of mature musicians was playing some 70s classics in the other room. A poster advertised live music on Friday and Saturday nights. At the rear there is outside seating.
On handpull there was Bombardier, Hooky Bitter, Wye Valley HPA and Black Boy Bitter. Always worth a visit.

As you can see by the picture, a nice black and white exterior, Georgian style, with central door and a beer patio area. A nice little two roomed place, with a fantastic fireplace. It is more like two lounges, though one is carpeted, the other tiled. There was a dart board. The service was friendly, though it was quiet, in fact we were the only ones in.

The beer saw Hobsons Bitter, Enville Ale (excellent) Bombardier and Leffe, as well as the usual kind of thing.

This was an excellent experience - and we will be visiting this place again

Nice little 2 roomer with an outside area on raised decking. It's two lounges really, the one on the right has a real fire and a very ornate fireplace, quite impressive. Three handpumps on the bar serving Bombardier, Ludlow Gold and a third one that my brain seems to have forgotten. Had a pint of the Ludlow which was good. Another nice bar, Bridgnorth is full of them.

Don't know why but I just love this place. Very quiet in the week & very lively at weekends so you get the best of both worlds. 3 real ales always available. The terrace at the back overlooks the River Severn. Located on a very steep hill linking Low Town with High Town. No parking available. Live music every Friday night when it can get crowded. In the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.
