Very handsome pub on the Cartway lane that links old and new town.

Central Island Bar, with wooden floors all around and traditional pub furniture. Decking terrace around the back, with views over the Severn.

Great bar staff - and a choice of around 6 real ales on, including two from Three Tuns.

Perfect condition.

Faultless pub.

Having parked my bicycle in Low Town and walked past this pub on my way up to explore High Town, I promised myself a beer here on the way back down. It's a fine looking pub, with a strange history recounted in a panel on the front wall, saying that it had started at No.67, moved to No.17 in 1831 and "finally settled here at No.58 Cartway in 1889". Or perhaps the local council renumbered the street.

Once inside this turned out to be a welcoming and lively local, though it became quieter during my stay - not something I said, just a group of regulars around the bar gradually remembering they had other things to do that afternoon. The large central bar had six hand pumps, with Old Rosie cider, plus five real ales: Purity Mad Goose and Saddle Black, Salopian Helix, Belhaven Gold and Wychwood Gangly Ghoul. I went for the Saddle Black, as much because of the bicycle on the pump clip as because I fancied a 5.8% black IPA: luckily it was a very good beer.

I enjoyed my brief stay here, and found the atmosphere convivial and the room itself very pleasant, with its open fire, quarry tiled floor and winter daylight still apparent through the large windows. There's a patio garden at the back, with a former pub sign depicting a black boy of the wrong type, if the pub's history of being named after Charles II is correct. I'd like to do a longer visit to Bridgnorth one day (sans bicyclette) and this will definitely be on my to do list.

The Black Boy Inn is a nice looking pub that is situated on the nice looking Cartway.
Once inside there is a single U shaped room with the bar on the right side, the floor is tiled, there is bench seating and normal tables and chairs.
There were six real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Purity Gold, which went down well with a cob,the other real ales were Wye Valley Butty Bach,Hobsons Bitter,Black Boy Bitter,GK ST Edmunds and one more i failed to read my notes of.
Background music was playing.
The pub was very busy on our Saturday afternoon visit.
