Looking in peril, slated to be demolished as part of the 'Didcot Gateway' scheme.

December 2013
GK station pub, looked to have been recently refurbed and wasn’t too bad actually. Just two GK ales on, I gave up and had a lemonade but my hardy companion (reluctantly) supped a half of Abbot, which was he said was average. Not worth getting off the train for but if you’ve been delayed it’s probably worth the effort. Rated 6

Located opposite Didcot Railway Station is the Prince of Wales that was unsurprisingly busy during a recent early Thursday evening visit. This is a Greene King establishment so IPA and Old Speckled Hen were both available alongside the seasonal Bonkers Conkers. For those that are averse to GK ales or generic lager there is a forth hand pump that was drawing Thwaites’ Wainwright. I didn’t look in a menu, but food is available from sometime after 10:00, when the pub opens, until 21:00.

Plasma screens are located throughout and Sky Sports was muted in favour of some background music. I found it strange that lots of empty tables had reserved signs on them until I spotted an advertisement for the weekly Thursday evening quiz, which must be quite popular.

Outside the front of the pub some picnic tables line the exterior and there is a beer yard out the back with more picnic tables, some of which are found under a jumbrella.

I found the service to be very friendly and I would pop back in here if I had a long wait for a train, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for a revisit.

The Prince of Wales is opposite Didcot train station so i made a quick visit while waiting for a connecting train.
Once inside the pub was quite smart and it had been opened out,the pub was trading under the Morrells banner but the brewery had closed down quite a few years ago so i dont know who was brewing the beer i drunk.
I had a drink of Morrells bitter this was drinkable but nothing special.
This pub is very handy if your waiting for a train here.
