The Wheatsheaf is a large standalone pub at the end of the main high street in Southwell. Located next to the small market that is held a few times a week. The Wheatsheaf is a classic old school drinker’s pub and as such moves away from the usual gastro/higher end pubs seen around the village. There are two rooms as you enter but we only went in the bar area which was very traditional. The smallish bar in the corner connects from the back to the bar in the other room so this may be bigger but I did not see it. There is a lot of nice traditional bench seating around with a very gloomy traditional style with red carpets and lots of varnished wood. The beer selection was pretty good with three pumps on the bar put face clips meaning there was other beers in the other room. I noticed Woodfords Wery, Pedigree and john Smiths Cask (very rarely seen in Nottingham). I had a pint of the Woodfords at £3.30 and this was a very nice pint and one that I always pick when available as it is not that frequent around these parts. We sat outside of some benches that overlooked the main high street and the square where the market is. This pub attracts a more down to earth drinker and is much less flamboyant/ fancy than some of the others in Southwell that I like as it is much more relaxing. A very nice basic old School pub to enjoy a beer in and a great addition to a Southwell crawl. Worth visiting if in Southwell.

The main bar was quite busy from the market traders on our Saturday evening visit. There was a couple of ales on and I settled for the Wells Bombardier. There was a smaller front bar, which was empty, music was at a minimal level and the staff were friendly.

The Wheatsheaf is a smallish pub that is situated next to the market.
Once inside the pub has got two smallish rooms we had a drink in the room at the front and this was a decent enough room to sit and have a few drinks in.
There was one real ale on the bar which was John Smiths cask and this was a very nice drink.
We enjoyed having a drink in here.
