The Old Green Dragon was the better of Oxton's 2 pubs and my favourite pub in Nottinghamshire out of 11 we visited on Saturday.

Tucked away just off the village's main drag, the pub caters well for both drinkers and diners. There are a number of different areas around the bar, spread over a couple of different levels. We were seated in a dining area to the rear, next to the kitchen. It looked like we were lucky to grab a table, given how busy it was. So, we took the opportunity to eat.

Ales on were Totally Brewed Crazy Like A Fox, Abbeydale Moonshine, Beermats Hazmat & Little Critters White Wolf. Ciders were Thirsty Farmer Lemon & Lime Cider, Lilley's Strawberry Cider & Tropical Cider, Seacider Blood Orange & Gwynt y Ddraig Fiery Fox. We opted for the Lemon & Lime Cider, which seemed very sweet and fizzy and was served with ice. Having thought nothing of it, the waitress soon returned to our table to said there had been a mistake with our order. We'd been given non-alcoholic lemon & lime! Both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions were good!

The meals we had were also fine, including my flat iron steak, served with a Diane sauce, tomatoes, a flat mushroom and plenty of chips and salad. Service was good and the pub is clearly very popular and has been the recipient of a few local CAMRA awards.

Recommended.

Formerly a Mansfield tied house the now re named Old Green dragon is a lovely village pub in the heart of Oxton. The pub has Theakstons branding around the sign and some doorways but none of their beers on the bar as well as a black sheep chalk sign sign and one of their beers so a little confusion over the lease/owners of the pub.

The Inside has been extensively refurbished in a fresh modern style but a lot of money has been spent here and it is not on the tacky side and a very enjoyable place to sit and have a drink. The only bad thing about this is i cant see it being that inviting in winter but on my late may visit it was really nice and had a nice roadside beer garden that is not disturbed my many cars as Oxton is tiny and only has 500 residents.

There was a good selection of real ales on the bar with Lanadlord being very expensive here at £3.70 and Harvest pale more resonance at £3.20 and a re badged Castle rock Elsie Mo labeled Oxton Gold being permanent beers. There was also Black sheep pathmaker as a guest and Rosies pig with the clip turned around. The landlord pathmaker and Harvest pale were all in superb condition and more reasonably priced aside from the landlord but still on the steeper end of Nottingham prices. They also sell high quality gastro type food.

Overall a very enjoyable experience that is great for a summers day outing, I will definitely be returning here when i next visit oxton away or cricket and recomend anyone who is ever nearby to give it a try, well worth seeking out.
