Alan Winfield left this review about The Northern Inn

The Northern Inn is a smallish corner pub and the closest open pub to Retfords train station.
Once inside there was a single room with the bar facing, there was a pool table to the right and leather settees to the left i sat on one of these, there was a TV showing some film on mute.
On the beer front there were four pumps on the bar and all were out of use, cobs were being stored under one set of pumps and what looked like washing under the other set, there were two keg bitters on the bar i opted for the Mansfield bitter which was cold and not as good as is it normally is when drunk in keg form, the other beer was Jennings bitter.
There were a few other people in here and there was a decent enough atmosphere but the pub was let down by having no real ales on.
