Soup Dragon left this review about The Old Angel
A town centre Georgian style corner pub and live music venue with a patio area at the back. The exterior is in a cream upper, with white lower facade on a green plinth, with some green paintwork and etched windows.
The interior has three ground floor rooms and an upper room where the bands play. The three rooms are a main bar, a side pool room in red and white, as well as a quieter back room in green and exposed brickwork. The main bar is a straight room and in undressed brick and wood panel, with a red ceiling and wood floor. There is a dart board. The walls are lined with posters of alternative music gigs recently on or about to be on. The service was fine and the clientele a mix of punk, goth, those ones beginning with E and 40 somethings in shirts and jeans; mainly younger but there were others my age! Amazingly, the music was alternative, but not played to make your ears bleed.
Beer; usual tap stuff with Coppice side Nottinghamshire Blonde and a decent Blue Monkey BG Sips and Nottinghamshire Brewery's Rock Bitter on handpull.
A great alternative music pub where nobody bothers what age or how you are dressed. Pub games, good beer, good welcome, I would more than happily return.
