Now reopen after a reputed £60,000 refurbishment. Having called in last night I have to say I can't see where they spent the money. Same carpets, same pictures on the wall etc. They now have 3 handpumps which had Marston's Bitter & Pedigree plus Hobgoblin on them, the Hobgoblin was fine. The barmaid however was totally clueless on how to pour a pint, how to measure a glass of wine and how to use the till. It's a little better then it was but it's a shame that they couldn't have refurbished the clientele as well as there were still a couple of loud sweary dipsticks in last night.

This pub now has a new tenant and they are giving it a real go. DJ and karaoke on Friday, live bands on Saturday and a poker night during the week. They now do food all day from 9 a.m. I called in on Friday and the music was blasting out playing to a crowd of one, me. The lights were out and flashing strobe lights etc were on the go. I'm not sure that this is what is needed in a pub that is a bit off the beaten track even in the town centre, but we'll see. Still only had Marston's Bitter on handpump, it was OK though.

Going through some hard times at the moment with several short term relief managers recently. It should really do better than it does as it's a nice pub. Currently awaiting yet another mug to lease it and give it a go. The brewery Bank's (Marstons) aren't helping, the relief manager used to sell two cask ales Bank's bitter and Jennings Cockahoop, trade dropped off which meant that he could only stock one ale. The best seller was Cockahoop, so with stunning ineptitude the brewery insisted that he sell Banks's alone. The relief is being paid a percentage of the wet sales so you can understand why he's not happy. Hello Marstons, real world calling, anybody in?
