Real Ale Ray left this review about The Fulflood Arms

A good sized tiled corner pub, positioned in a residential area. The exterior does have the wow factor along with the pub and brewery signage. The bar area was in a prominent position and I noticed some patterned tiles running below the counter top. Seventies style wallpaper over near the upright piano added some more interest.
Five handpumps with two in use plus two beers on stillage, behind the bar. The line up was Tribute, Landlord, Flowerpots Perridge pale, Triple fff Dazed and Confused. Friendly barman and the prices were reasonable at £4.30 a pint.

Has had a bit of a spruce-up and definitely lost the bar billiards table a few years ago. The bar front is now yellow but the tiles and frosted windows remain. Five pumps with four on; 2x from the local Queen micro, GK OSH and a past-its-best Oakham Citra (NBSS 2). Chatty barman and a small astroturf courtyard. Lost a bit of lustre for me, I’d be less inclined to make the walk next time. GBG'22 listed.

A good yomp away from the town centre lies this lovely local. The attractive green tiled exterior has been preserved and is monikered with the long-defunct ‘Winchester Brewery Co Ltd’. This is now a Greene King house but the tie seems gratifyingly loose. Five pumps with four ales on; Black Sheep, Itchin Valley Godfathers, Flowerpots Gooden and a GK beer (who knows, who cares!) alongside a ‘proper’ cider from Westons. The interior is V shaped (knocked-through?), with some half wall wood cladding and modern (too modern?) light wood furnishings with a sofa or two to be had. I also spotted an upright piano though not the bar billiards table mentioned elsewhere (apparently it is located in the smoking room - should have looked harder?!). I like it here and is worth the stroll on a pleasant day. I’d happily drink here if I lived locally and if I can find the bar billiards table next time I'll shove the rating up by a point...

Charming local, a bit out of the way but well worth the walk. A Greene King house, but had a guest on (St Austell Tribute) which was served fairly well. Locals were friendly, and a bar billiards table is to be found – unusual in a tied house these days. The same can also be said of the outside gents. Comedy entertainment was provided by the three massive St Bernards, who were roaming round the bar, pushing the 16 year old-looking camp barman off-balance on a regular basis. All in all, pretty good. Rated 8

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Fulflood Arms

A fine-looking corner pub, opened-out at some stage to form a single irregular L-shaped bar (albeit still with distinct seating areas within the overall arrangement). Smart, semi-traditional furniture and relatively plain decoration in all parts, but this does draw the eye towards the central counter. As a Greene King house, it was odd (but a pleasant surprise) to find Oakham Citra, Old Speckled Hen and a pair from the Queen Inn on the other side of the city - A Long Way from Pillowcases (£4.40) and Queen of Sheba - from four of the five handpumps, plus that brewery's The Boy Who Barked Twice from a three-cask stillage.

A traditional town pub, much as described by others, below. Three (I think) ales from Queen Inn on, plus Oakham Citra. I went for the latter, which was probably a mistake given other reviews, as it was not on top form, but it was drinkable nonetheless. The atmosphere was convivial, the staff were welcoming and the company was in good humour. There were signs advertising a meat draw, and there is also a weekly quiz. No food available, but dogs are welcome. Well worth seeking out, and I'd be very happy to come back here.

This place requires a mighty uphill slog to reach, located in a backstreet in a rather upmarket area, the pub itself displaying a fine tiled exterior with the old Winchester Brewery Co. logo to the left-hand fascia. It’s now owned by Greene King, but don’t let that put you off as the brand’s typical traits are absent, along with their ales, listed below.
The interior is largely simple and traditional except for the modern hipsterish rough wood bar back.
I went for a half of the ridiculously named Queens Inn A Long Way From Pillowcases at a decent £2.00, served by a very friendly and welcoming barman; the beer could have been a bit more exciting, but was decent enough.
This is an excellent stop, well worth the effort to reach.

A splendidly-unspoilt backstreet local, knocked through into one room but pleasantly-furnished and peaceful and with a very chatty bar person. The beer range was Oakham Citra, Old Speckled Hen and 3 from the Queens Inn micro, including one on stillage. Well worth the traipse out of town.

It was a bit of a mission to find, especially after a day at The Winchester Beer Festival but the trek was well worth the effort, It has an attractively green tiled exterior ,inside is a fairly large single room curved around the bar, fairly traditionally furnished it put me in mind of an old style east London boozer, the place was buzzing on Friday evening. Being a Greene King pub I wasn't expecting to much on the beer front but was pleasantly surprised,5 handpulls and another 3 beers on stillage behind the bar only two were Greene King related, IPA and Old Speckled Hen, one was a house beer Fulflood 1772 which I imagine is a rebadged beer from the GK stable, but I didn't confirm this. There were a couple of beers from local Red Cat Brewery another two beers I fail to remember plus my choice of Wild Weather Mudslinger which turned out to be my best beer of the day despite some very good stuff earlier at the beer festival,I stayed for another.A cracking pub, I highly recommend seeking this pub out, I for one will return.A note of caution, the current opening times are 12-2.30,4.30-11 Mon - Thurs but open from 12 all day Fri, Sat and Sunday.

Friendly staff, good range of ales and pleasant surroundings. I would agree with some of the comments below about the pub having a somewhat more modern feel after its (relatively) recent transformation, but it's an enjoyable place to relax, read a paper and enjoy a nice pint.

BARRY TAYLOR left this review about The Fulflood Arms

Weeke is the first parish on leaving the city to the north west beyond where the original Roman wall was located. The parish is approximately bounded by the Roman road to Cirencester (the modern Andover Road) and the Roman Road to Salisbury (the modern Sarum Road). The Fulflood Arms is at the end of a terrace of houses. It is on the corner of Cheriton Road and Western Road. It does not appear in the 1871 census but was completed probably late in that year. The fascia of the pub consists of glazed dark green tiles with the words "Winchester Brewery Co. Ltd" and "The Fulflood Arms" embossed on it, but today it is Greene King pub. This boozer has been part of the Winchester community for over 130 years and is one of the best kept secrets of Winchester. A real locals pub it has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere upon entry. Inside the victorian ambience is continued with many prints of that period and the decor is tastefully re-furbished complimenting the architecture. I take it that at one time it was two bars, but now one room surrounds the central bar. This was the first stop of a mini pub crawl my brother and I did and we were a little bit spoilt by this excellent boozer. It's not easy to find but the effort is worth it. 5 real ales on hand pump and a recent posting has St Austell Brewery - Tribute 4.2%, Itchen Valley Brewery - Godfathers 3.8% (Local), Upham Brewery - Stakes Ale 4.6% (Local), Springhead Brewery - Leveller 4.8%, Westons - Old Rosie (cider) 7.3%. I had a pint of Pots ale and it was in excellent form. There is a bar billiards table (the only one left in Winchester) and also a dart board where three teams play their home matches. A rather nice Wurlitzer juke box (not working on our visit) was hidden behind two of the many comfy Chesterfield sofas you can lounge in. The toilets are clean and wooden paneled (of course) and there's a small beer garden. If I could afford to live in Winchester I'd never leave this pub and I only give this a 9 because one day I may find a better pub.

Pub SignMan left this review about The Fulflood Arms

Reaching this pub involves a bit of a walk from the town centre through a residential area, but I thought that it was well worth the effort. Effectively a single, U-shaped room, the interior successfully mixes traditional and contemporary to create a pub which feels smart and clean and has a fair bit of charm to it. The corners of the room have some small sofas but otherwise the pub is fitted with standard tables and chairs. There are large rugs over the bare floorboards and tiles and the walls are half panelled with floral wallpaper on top. One corner of the room has an upright piano, although I don't remember seeing the bar billiards table mentioned in previous reviews. Limited seating is also available outside the front of the pub under large umbrellas.
There was an interesting ale selection, comprising of Duke's Cambridge Ale, Black Sheep Bitter, Itchen Valley Godfather and Flowerpots Perridge Pale. The Itchen Valley was decent, although not as good as some of their other beers,
I liked it in here and would have happily spent more time had we not had other pubs still to visit. I didn't have any particularly high expectations for this place, so it was a pleasant surprise to have those expectations well surpassed.
