E TA left this review about The George

Previously the George and Dragon, Old George and New George, it seems to have settled on The George for now, at any rate. A good town centre pub which hasn’t changed much since Soupie’s review, below, except that there is now some decent beer. The single L-shaped bar has a mix of floor styles which provides a clue as to the original layout, the pool table was in use, and there were some gaming machines contributing to the general din. The jukebox was a bit cacophonous, and there were children roaming the bar, but it felt homely and welcoming. Free WiFi was available, and the staff were pleasant. There is a small paved garden, mostly used by smokers. There was the usual range of megakeg on tap, while behind the bar was a perry, a cider and Doombar on gravity from the cask. There was also quite a good selection of bottled beers. The Doombar was past its best but still quite drinkable. I would be happy to drop in for a swift pint, and I’d include on a crawl.

Soup Dragon left this review about The New George

A smart looking detached, yet town centre pub/eatery that also offers accommodation, with a triple gabled frontage in cream and a beigey colour.

The interior is a massive L shape that curls around the long wood panelled serving bar and ending in a games area, which has a dart board and pool table. Indeed, wood fatures heavily in the decor, with wood panle, wood floor and ceiling beams, though there are some salmon coloured walls and cream and wood panel in the games area. There were no real pictures or ephemera and the seating was a mix of sofas, settles and general table chairs. The service was friendly and there were a few locals in. There was a TV, but it wasn't on and the music was general and very quiet.

Beer; all tap stuff, no real ale. I had Addlestone's Cider for a change, it was fine.

With no real ale, i wouldn't bother again, but if you simply drink keg, it is spacious and has the pub games and seemed friendly enough to me

Philip Carter left this review about The New George

Seems my picture is out of date, judging by the name change.
