Old Boots left this review about Walnut Tree

A large detached early 19th century building of the type often converted to hotel use, this one bills itself as “pub and dining”. It consists of two similar bars, the front more of a lounge, the rear more a public with machine, screens, hi-vis, sweary punters and a good collection of bar blockers. The hand pumps are in the rear bar with a less than exciting choice of Black Sheep Bitter, Taylors Landlord, Wainwright and a fourth pull unclipped; there’s a T-bar with a mostly down market keg choice and a couple of Heineken brand solos, Neck Oil and Camden Hells. The lounge has a similar choice on more T-Bars. My landlord wasn’t too good. Internally it has untidy, littered, banquette seating at round wooden cast iron based tables, a backward reading clock, with tile and laminate flooring. The lounge is slightly more upmarket, more pictures. There’s the conservatory to the side and a smoking shelter cum gazebo out back in a large garden.

The entrance to the Walnut Tree leads to a corridor that runs up the right of the pub giving access to the front and rear bars to the left and toilets at the rear. The front bar has an L-shaped serving counter along the rear wall where standard, premium and craft keg can be found alongside four hand pumps that were drawing Wainwright, Sharp’s Doom Bar and TT Landlord. Tiling runs along the floor around the counter and carpet runs across the front where seating sits in the front windows either side of a central fireplace. In the smaller rear bar are some banquettes and high tables, the four hand pumps are duplicated from the front. The televisions in both bars were showing muted golf via Sky Sports and there was some loud background music playing.
On the left side of the pub is a conservatory like extension that is used mainly for dining. The cheeseburger is priced at £13 with a soft drink or £14 with a pint. Further left is a large patio with seating and beyond is a massive grass covered area strewn with picnic tables.
My visit was late on a recent Thursday after the speed quiz had finished so it was fairly quiet and the atmosphere was a bit flat. The service wasn’t overly welcoming, but my visit was late so I’ll let the barmaid off. If I lived in the area I would be happy to call this pub one of my locals. However, the out of town location means that I’d have to make a special trip to revisit, which isn’t going to happen.

Graham Coombs left this review about The Walnut Tree

A very civilised large pub standing in its own grounds with good car parking and a big garden including a children's area. The three rooms are all tastefully decorated, with the main bar at the front leading through to a restaurant area and a further bar behind keeping the sports TV out of the way. Some good ales on offer (Cask Marque accredited); the sampled TT Boltmaker was in excellent form.
