Stuck out on the fringes of town, this is a resolutely old school boozer with an unfashionable cash only policy and a fairly unaltered interior. You enter into a flagstone floored room with whitewashed walls interspersed with fake dark wood beams. The bar is on the middle of the back wall and has a tongue and groove counter and matching mirrored bar back with an attractive stained glass canopy bearing a pleasant flower motif and decorated with Union Jack bunting and lots of postcards. Comfy banquette seating can be found at the front of the room, with low stools in support, next to a nice brick fireplace with a lit stove. A pool table to the left, a slot machine behind it and a TV screen showing The Chase to the interest of the barman and the only other customer, all detracted somewhat from the pub's traditional feel. The right side of the room has more seating, mostly in the form of high tables and stools, across a similarly decorated space with some board games stacked up on the end wall. There are some nice etched glass windows to the front and I noticed a big trophy cabinet next to the fireplace.
The pub is a regular outlet for the nearby Storm Brewing Co, and had three of their ales on handpull on my visit - Besley Cloud, Isobar IPA and Force 10 - with a fourth pump unclipped. The old school landlord poured me a decent pint of the Isobar IPA and I was a bit surprised to find that the pub slowly started to fill during my short time here, with a decent atmosphere starting to build by the time I was ready to leave.
I found this place a bit idiosyncratic and unsure of the type of pub it wants to be, but it still felt like a cosy enough place with enough things to keep most people entertained and some good local beer to hand as well. This definitely won't be for everyone, but I thought it was a solid addition to my crawl and I'm glad I persevered with some very steep and icy back streets to get here.

The Railway View has an aged flagstone floor and a large central chimney breast that was full of logs. Banquette seating runs across the front of the pub and the bar counter is found on the rear wall flanked by a pool table to the left and dartboard to the right. Some background music was playing through the television courtesy of Now Rock. Three of the four hand pumps were in operation drawing Cross Bay Brewing’s EPA and Blonde alongside Storm Brewing’s The Force. Standard keg was also available, as was Staropramen. This is a cash only old geezer pub… well it is on a Monday evening, things may be different at busier times.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Railway View

A traditional freehouse pub with flagstone floors, a central wood burning stove and mahogany bar and etched glass back bar. Three handpumps on our visit, with three ales from Storm Brewery, which is situated a few hundred yards over the road. I went for the Storm Brewery Windgather. The other two ales on were Bosley Cloud and Desert Storm. The pub is well run and spotlessly clean. The new owner mentioned she would like to introduce a food menu.
