The Frank Hornby (JD Wetherspoon), Liverpool

Its actually not a bad Wetherspoons, if you can find it as its sited in a rather inconvenient place. Lots of guest beers for strokey beard Camra types to dissect.

Previously The Everest,and after a refit the pub is named after the English inventor,businessman and politician Frank Hornby who was responsible for 3 of the most popular childrens toys in years gone by,Meccano, Hornby modern Railways and Dinky Toys.He is buried in Maghull at St Andrews Church and lived at The Hollys on Station Road which was the first building outside London to be awarded a blue plaque. Arrived just before noon and noticed that customers were a bit thin on the ground for a JDW pub,although the location might be a factor with it being sited just outside the centre.I was soon endulging in my favourite Tuesday morning pastime 'Spot the Wethys barstaff' and after about 30 seconds one was spotted camouflaged behind a pillar and a meccano set clicking away on a laptop and quite oblivious of any person wanting service.After about 2 minutes i was finally served when a barman arrived from the kitchen area. The furniture was a strange mixture of different colours and styles and a few awkwardly shaped rooms towards the right of the door.There was agood selection of cask beers on and a fair amount of Frank Hornby tributes adorning the walls plus a rectangular case covering a meccano construction and a mirror that is surrounded by what look like Dinky cars.
