I really liked this Spoons, especially when I got a superb pint of Reedley Hallows Pendleside 4% for £1.83 a pint. The interior deco was quite trendy around the main bar area, with turquoise walls, light and dark blue painted panelled bar front, plus oak counter. The main features were the ceiling cornice work and various displays dedicated to Frank Hornby such as a Meccano display cabinet in the front lounge along with a dinky car framed mirror. Other cask ales on my visit were Redemption Urban Dusk, InverAlmond Brewery Ossian and Wadworth Bishops's Tipple.

Wetherspoons don't have many pubs completely surrounded by suburbia but this is one of them. There are no shops within sight just semi-detached housing. As noted below, it's an original pub previously called the Everest which ties in with Tensing Road on the corner of which it resides.
Inside and out it's a fairly typical 20th Century suburban pub. Although it's now a single room it is split into different areas and the furnishings are better than average. Although it wasn't busy on my Wednesday afternoon visit there were some people in.
The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had two available soon, Orkney Red MacGregor, Swannay Scapa Special, Big Bog Swampy & Quagmire, Peerless Knee Buckler & Red Rocks, Brightside Manchester Skyline and Otter Bright. I thought this was a good choice and even better when I spotted that some were priced at £1.49 rather than £2.09. I went for the Quagmire (£1.49) Which was in first class nick. I thought this was a pretty good Spoons. It's GBG 2018 listed.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Frank Hornby (JD Wetherspoon)

Traditional roadhouse-style pub when viewed from the road but given a bit of the 'spoons treatment inside (but not to detrimental effect). Features a variety of seating / dining areas around the bar, some with dark wood-panelling but otherwise relatively light in terms of decor. Patio seating area to one side. Ten, mostly interesting, real ales on handpump - including a fine pint of Broadside B-side (£2.09).

Its actually not a bad Wetherspoons, if you can find it as its sited in a rather inconvenient place. Lots of guest beers for strokey beard Camra types to dissect.

Previously The Everest, and after a refit the pub is named after the English inventor, businessman and politician Frank Hornby who was responsible for 3 of the most popular childrens toys in years gone by,Meccano, Hornby modern Railways and Dinky Toys.He is buried in Maghull at St Andrews Church and lived at The Hollys on Station Road which was the first building outside London to be awarded a blue plaque.
Arrived just before noon and noticed that customers were a bit thin on the ground for a JDW pub, although the location might be a factor with it being sited just outside the centre.I was soon endulging in my favourite Tuesday morning pastime 'Spot the Wethys barstaff' and after about 30 seconds one was spotted camouflaged behind a pillar and a meccano set clicking away on a laptop and quite oblivious of any person wanting service. After about 2 minutes i was finally served when a barman arrived from the kitchen area.
The furniture was a strange mixture of different colours and styles and a few awkwardly shaped rooms towards the right of the door. There was agood selection of cask beers on and a fair amount of Frank Hornby tributes adorning the walls plus a rectangular case covering a meccano construction and a mirror that is surrounded by what look like Dinky cars.
